Note: This part is a little longer than the rest so I apologize. I wanted to keep it all together instead of splitting it up. But, this part does function as an introduction to another multi-chapter story I am going to post!!
October 2024
He looked at the mock up pictures of the ring that were sent over by the jeweler. He had been going back and forth on the design for a month now, fine-tuning and making so many changes that he was sure that the jeweler was going to tell him to find someone else to design it. But all he wanted was for it to be perfect for Taylor.
He knew he would have to wait a few months to ask her-Taylor was set to restart the tour soon, and he had a football season to finish. But it wouldn't happen at all without the ring, which was proving to be more of a hurdle than he anticipated.
He analyzed the image from every angle, trying to picture it on Taylor's finger, conjuring up what the look on her face might be when he got down on one knee and opened the box.
"What are you looking at babe?"
He jumped, frightened by the unexpected sound of Taylor's voice from the doorway of his office. Nervously, he responded, "I was just reviewing some football tape that Pat sent over." He hoped she didn't catch the way his breath hitched as he said it.
She looked at him curiously, before asking, "Don't you think it would be better to pull it up on your computer rather than strain your eyes on your phone screen?"
He nodded, "You're right, as always," and booted up his desktop to avoid suspicion.
She walked over to press a kiss onto his forehead, rubbing her hand over the soft bristles of his hair. "I'm going to start on dinner. Whenever you're done, can you fill up the cat bowls and make sure the guest rooms are all set? Mom and Dad should be here in the next few hours."
"Yeah baby, I'll make sure everything's all good."
She invited her parents into town so they could attend the home game that weekend. They were coming in a few days early, to get settled and see Travis before he got caught up in game prep on Friday and Saturday. Because a few of his friends were already staying at his old home, he and Taylor welcomed Andrea and Scott to stay in the guest rooms of their house.
Her parents being in town gave him the perfect opportunity to sit down with them and break the exciting news that he would be proposing to Taylor. The only unfortunate part: he was painfully nervous. Not because he felt like they would disapprove, no, he knew Scott and Andrea loved him. But because this would be the first time he told anyone of his plans to propose. He had been keeping that information to himself, scared that somehow Taylor would find out and all his plans would be ruined. But, out of respect for her parents, he had to let them know.
He decided that stressing was not worth it at the moment, and went into the kitchen to grab the cat food out of the pantry. Taylor was already cooking, music playing lightly through the air. Travis gave her a little spank on the bum as he walked past to fill the cat bowls, and she turned to him with a playful glare.
After completing that task, he walked through the guest rooms that her parents would be using for the weekend, making sure they were suitable for his future in-laws. Once everything appeared put together, he walked back into the kitchen where Taylor was.
"All done?" She asked him while she threw some bread into the oven to bake.
"Yeah. Everything's ready." He was standing awkwardly on the other side of the kitchen island, watching as she wiped her hands onto the skirt of her apron. She had speckles of flour in her hair, the sleeves of her sweater pulled up to her elbows, and he was endeared by how utterly adorable she looked.
