I looked at the headset that was on my desk. Everything seemed to be plugged in fine, and nothing appears to be malfunctioning whatsoever, so I would call this a job well-done.
"Does it look okay?" I asked one of my friends who was in my bedroom, sitting on my bed, seeing me screwing around with my computer for a bit.
"I mean, yeah. I'm not a computer whiz like you are, but I would say that it's fine," The friend huffed. I rolled my eyes and I touched the headset, feeling the plastic on my fingers.
"Do you think this program is safe?" I wondered. "I mean, we did get it from a sketchy website. What was the website again?"
"God, who the hell cares? Just put on the headset. You've been working on setting up this game for the whole day! How hard is it to set up a video game?"
"If you think it's so easy, I want you to try doing it for a change," I snapped back as I lifted the headset from the desk, analyzing it carefully.
"It's not going to blow up, just put on the damn thing!"
I scowled as I placed the headset carefully on my head. For a moment all I saw was a white screen, with the title screen 'The Amazing Digital Circus,' and then my body started feeling fuzzy and my vision slowly started warping. I couldn't speak, feel, or hear anything as my vision and every sensation on my body was slowly fading away.
But then I started feeling the air course through my body like I was falling. And falling. And falling. That's when my body made a heavy impact on the floor below me. My ears were ringing as my head was pounding like crazy. I lifted my head off the ground as I looked around. Colors were everywhere and it was way too overwhelming.
"The f*beep*?" My eyes widened when I realized something: I couldn't swear. How the hell was that possible?! An assortment of colorful characters were staring at me with either curious eyes or ones that seemed more bored.
"Well, well, well! We already have a new character!" A loud booming voice above me yelled. I slowly stood up and tilted my head to the side. Why is his mouth his head? And where the HELL am I?!
"I-- Where--?" My voice couldn't even form coherent sentences because of how confused I was.
"Looks like this one can't even talk properly! What a shame," Another guy spoke. His voice was more smooth than the teeth-for-mouth guy. He was a lavender colored rabbit that was taller than all the other characters.
"W-Wait...they're another one...?" A jester girl gasped. She ran over to me. "D-Did you see a door? Anywhere?"
"She's still going on about that," The rabbit huffed. I raised an eyebrow, clearly confused. What the fuck is happening...?
"A...A door...?" I repeated. The clown nodded her head.
"Yeah! Did you...?"
I slowly shook my head. "Well, no. I don't even know where the heck I am. Let alone seeing a...a door."
"Well, my friend," The teeth-for-head guy yelled. "This is The Amazing Digital Circus! And you," He pointed at me with his cane. "Are a new player! My name is Caine! There's Ragatha, Zooble, Kinger, Gangle, Jax, and lastly our newest one, Pomni." He pointed at all the ones he was listing off so I was aware of who's who.
"Um...okay," I muttered, my head still feeling fuzzy. "Wait-- I'm inside a f*beep*ing video game?"
Caine looked at me with a bewildered expression. "Video game?"
"Uh, yeah. I put on my headset and now I'm here. What other logical explanation is there?" My eyebrows were raised in confusion as I tried to explain myself.
