I walk out the door into a beautiful sunny day. "If only we didn't have to worry." My thoughts are interrupted by someone grabbing my hand.
"Are you ok?" Ethan asks, a worried look shown on his face.
"I don't think anyone's ok at this moment" Jeremy (parking meter) butts in. "I mean, we are at the start of an apocalypse. I don't think any of us are even close to being 'ok'." Rene and Steve nod in agreement and walk towards a car.
"We should hurry up to the store," I tell them. They all nod and we get in our cars. Steve and Rene are going to a Home Depot to grab wood, batteries, flashlights, and many more materials. Jeremy (parking meter) is going to a water store to grab gallons of water, water bottles, ice, and 12 ice coolers to keep anything cold in case the power goes out. Ethan and I are going to 4 food markets to grab as much canned food, bread, and vegetables as we can. We might also buy meat but we are not sure. A loud obnoxious ringing sound takes me out of my thoughts and I notice that we are halfway to our first stop. I grab my phone and see that it's Brandon (noot) calling. I answer the phone to be greeted by heavy breathing.
"Alanis! How the hell did you know?" I can hear Jessica crying in the background and Kyle repeating the word 'no' countless times. Jeremy sounds like he's trying to calm both of them down.
"What are you taking about?" I ask. I put the phone on speaker so Ethan can listen as well.
"We were watching the news..... And it's not pretty....". Ethan drives into the parking lot and we wait for him to finish.
"Noot, come on man keep talking." I hold Ethans hand for comfort. It works for a bit, until Brandon speaks again.
"The apocalypse has begun. And we are the first city to be infected by it."
