A wave of dread settled down inside the car as we heard Brandon say that sentence.
"Alright, thanks for telling us Noot. Call us again if any new events occur." I hang up the call and get out of the car. Ethan slowly following. "I guess the shock was just too much" I walk up to him and embrace him with a hug. "It's going to be ok. We just need to get the food and we can go back home.
"Okay. I wish this was all just a nightmare." He replies. We start walking to the store ready to grab as much food as possible.
"I need to call Jeremy (parking meter) and Rene to tell them what's happening." Ethan nods and goes to grab a cart to fill up.
"I'll go get the canned foods while you go and grab the rest." I nod and run towards the breads and vegetables. Finally someone answers the call, but all I can hear is screaming and glass shattering. "Rene!" I scream into the phone. People around me give me a weird look as I try to get his attention.
"Alanis! We need to go back!" His voice sounds harsh, like he has been screaming for hours. I grab all the food we need and wait in line to pay for it.
"Rene what's wrong? What is happening?" My breaths become short and my vision is becoming blurry. "Alanis, calm down. Everything is going to be ok.".
"We're going back home. The supplies are in the car and we were able to grab some guns and ammo." Steve rushes, "go back home as soon as you can.". The call ends and the cashier has a worried look on his face.
"Is everything ok ma'am?" He asks as he places the food on the cart.
"Yes, everything is ok." I try to reassure him, knowing that soon he might die.
"Alright, that call sounded pretty hectic from afar.".
"Dont worry sir." I smile, "everything is okay.".
The cashier smiles back and grabs the money.
"Have a nice da-" pieces of glass fly through the store as a car rams into the glass windows. People screaming is heard throughout the store and victims of the crash are helped immediately by surrounding people. I turn around and see the cashier as scared as I am.
"Run." I tell him. "And save the ones you love." I grab the cart and run outside from the hole in the window towards my car. I see Ethan inside, holding onto his phone tight. I shove all the food inside and close all the doors, ready to leave.
"Ethan, is everything ok?" I ask with a worried tone in my voice.
"Abby called," a feeling of nausea was felt in my stomach. "This is going to be bad news". He starts breathing heavily and I hold his hand to calm him down.
"What did she say?" He hesitates for a bit.
"They're dead."
