JULIETTE HAD NEVER FELT colder than when she felt herself freezing to death in a tent with the storm raging outside. Bella had the same problem as her, but she had accepted Jake's offer and curled up to him, embracing his warmth.

Juliette, though, planned on toughing it out. She didn't expect the tent to suddenly zip open as a familiar face poked his head into the tent.

"Quil?" The boy grinned as he closed the tent and shivered slightly. "Jeez, Jules, you're practically a popsicle by—" But she wouldn't let him get another word in before grabbing him and pulling him down. They settled where her front was to his back and his strong arms were wrapped tightly around her body.

"You're freezing, Jules. Relax, you'll warm up soon. Faster if you took your clothes off. That's how hot I am." She elbowed him in the gut, and he grunted before laughing. Jake grinned too, and Juliette knew that they'd planned that somehow.

"Is she asleep?" Juliette asked softly, and Jake nodded, then looked down at Bella, who was no longer shivering but was losing the fight against sleep. It would be a long night, but Juliette knew that she'd sleep just fine with Quil beside her.

"Survival 101, Jules. Once we do that, we gotta cover your mouth to keep your lungs safe from the cold. I have a few ideas on—" This time, Juliette didn't elbow him. Edward did, and it was more like a swat.

"Hey, don't hit him," Juliette said, but she could feel sleep trying to take her down, which she wasn't too opposed to. She just didn't want Edward to be uncomfortable once she did, and he would have no buffer.

With Juliette there, though, Edward was unable to read thoughts. He felt perfectly at ease, and in particular, was glad to be rid of Jacob's most secret fantasies.

"Jake?" The shifter looked at the blonde, who suddenly looked wide awake. "The others are—they're gonna be okay, right? I know that everyone says they will, but I just have a really bad feeling. Like, this gnawing feeling in my gut that's telling me to yell at them to get back. You know?"

He gave her a half smile, mostly because of how much she cared about Leah, Embry, and Quil. Two of them were basically siblings to her, and the other was something else entirely. It was sweet, and almost made Jake rethink his hatred against imprints.

"They'll be fine. Once Quil and I get down there and tear some le—vamps apart, everything will be okay." She nodded, and waited to ask her next question for when Quil was halfway asleep and she knew he wasn't lucid.

"I need you to promise me something. They'll get out of this unscathed. Please, Jake, because if one of them died, I don't know what I'd—" She had to stop herself when she felt her voice break. Edward could see Jake gearing up to respond with possibly empty promises, and intervened.
