I was very upset that this... Human was my species. But he was very kind. We sat in the cave he called 'camp'. He did something to the rabbit that made my mouth water. It seemed darker, with the skin and meat simmering like water. I almost fainted!
"So... what's your name?" He asked. I've never said my own name out loud in the language we spoke. Well, time to try it!
"A...a... Ava-lone?" I tried. He covered his snout and made a noise that was akward. "What?"
"You mean Avalon? Or is it Avalone?" He said in a weird way.
"Oh, yes, that".
"Okay, Avalon, I'm Joseph." He barred his teeth again, and I took it as a sign of threat. I crouched low and growled.
"Why bare teeth at me, when I come in peace?" I say through gritted teeth. He seemed scared. Good.
"What... no... that's not... what I did was smile, Avalon. Smiling is what we do when we show kindness." He said defensively.
"Uh, I'm s-s-sorry... I'm not knowing of your - I mean our species." I say, feeling embarrassed.
"Oh, it's alright. You are scary when you do that though. You actually look like a wild animal!" He exclaimed. Uh, okay? He's now saying something weird.
"Wild animal? You're outsider here! Do not differ against the way I act because you are different! And if have not noticed, you are odd one out here." I say, proud of myself. I then hear my mother, Opals, growl behind me.
"I think it is time to come home now Avalon, we need to converse about this" she growls in my first language.
"Mother, he has to come with me. You have lied to me, and he is the only way I will learn!" I snap to her in our tongue. She looks at me with a singe of fire in her eyes.
"Fine." She snaps back. "But we speak alone"
I look back at him and bare my teat- I mean smile. But stop when he looks strangely at me and my mother.
"What?" I ask and cock my head. He seemed to relax a bit but was still on edge.
"You just talked to a wolf. You seriously just talked to a wolf. Am I sleeping? This all is one big dream and I'll wake up right? HOW CAN YOU TALK TO A WOLF?!"
"Oh, this is mother Opal." I explain.
He still looked confused. "How is this your mother. Wolf's cannot give birth to hu-" he was cut off from Mother growling.
"Home. Now!" She growled. I followed her home and looked back, but Joseph wasn't following.
"Joseph! Can't you hear her? She said to go home! You have to follow!" I yelled. He scurried behind and followed us, walking upright.
