"Jesus said to her, 'I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?'"
John 11:25-26.
"Ready to go back to school?" my mom asks me.
"Wish I wasn't even going. I haven't been since the day before homecoming." I sigh while fixing my hair. "What's one more day?"
"Yeah, but-"
"And I have to get ready for later on anyway."
Mom gives me a sad smile. "It doesn't start 'till 5:30, Bray."
I slowly put my hands over my face and begin to cry. I feel her against me as she pulls me into a tight hug. I move my hands from my face and hug her back.
"You gotta go get all the work you missed. I'm going to pick you up early, though."
"I can't believe she's gone."
She pulls away and looks at me. "I know, Bray, but you know where she's going, right?"
I nod.
"Don't shed another tear, baby."
She gives me a kiss on my forehead. I pull away and grab my earrings.
"I gotta help Bailey, Bray."
I nod. She walks out of my room and I wipe away my tears.
I sigh. "Let's get this over with," I sigh.
During 7th period, I'm walking with Trey to my next class, I feel someone tap my shoulder. I turn around and let go of Trey's hand, to see Tyler looking at me.
"Look, Tyler, I am not in the mood today."
"I know, Bray," she says. "Can I talk to you for a second?"
I look at her, trying to figure out if she's serious. "Um, sure." I look back at Trey. I mouth 'it's okay' and he continues to eye Tyler suspiciously.
"I know you just got out of the hospital. How are you feeling?"
I stare at her. "I'm okay."
"I just...wanted to say I'm sorry for how I've been acting. I know I've been mean but I just wanted to make sure you were okay."
I give her a half-smile.
"And I guess I wanted to get this off my chest too. You're really lucky to have Trey. And MJ. No, scratch that, they're lucky to have you."
I look at her, shocked.
Did she really just say that?
"Wow, uh...thanks, Tyler."
She smiles. "You're welcome." and walks away.
I slowly turn around and walk towards Trey.
"What did she want?" he asks.
"To apologize," I say shocked with a little smile on my face.
"Really?"
"Yeah."
"Wow."
I close my eyes and take a big sigh.
"You okay?" Trey asks.
"Yeah. I'm fine."
He looks at me uncertainly.
I change the subject. "Let's get to class."
"Alright see you later baby girl," Trey gives me a kiss on the cheek. "We'll talk about it tomorrow." he whispers in my ear.
I slowly nod and walk into class.
