A/N: Hello... This is my first fic with real people, damn. I am currently listening to Backslide yay :). Clancy is so good I absolutely love it. Anyways, I'm here to talk about this fic. I wrote it mostly for fun. Sorry if there are any mistakes, you can tell me so thst I correct them and stuff. I don't think I will take this story very seriously but let's see how it goes. Enjoy :)Thanksgiving break had started at last. Tyler couldn't remember how long he had been waiting for this moment to arrive. For the moment he could leave his responsibilities behind and forget about them for a while, even if it would only last a week. Never in his entire life had he imagined that high school could be so... Overwhelming. The pressure from having to be a perfect student was something, and the pressure of having to see some specific people each day was something else.
But now that he had the opportunity to escape, he would take it. His parents had decided that they would spend the summer in his grandparents' house. It was a good opportunity to leave the city and join the quiet nature that submerged their house. It was a small town in the middle of a huge forest and he was all in for it.
He remembers fantasizing about the forest when he was little. And he still would do it sometimes, whenever he needed to avoid the dark side of his mind. He had been there once, when he was 6 years old. He only remembers fragments of the woods. The sun hit the shiny white roof when they arrived. The smell of pine trees, the birds chirping. But nothing more. That's why he would stare at the pictures his parents put in a frame for hours. Even if he barely recognized them, it was fun to fantasize.
Tyler found himself sitting on his front porch, writing something in his precious notebook. He tapped his pen against his lips, gaze concentrated in the words that decorated the page he was currently reading. His backpack stood next to him, using his body as support. His youngest brother, Jay, watched over Tyler's shoulder, paying attention to his every movement. His other siblings, Zack and Madison, were playing on the grass a few meters away from them. They were waiting for their parents to come out with the things they would bring to their grandparents' so that they could finally leave.
Jenna had passed by earlier to spend the morning with Tyler since they wouldn't see each other during the small break. She was Tyler's best friend and Tyler was thankful that the existence brought such a beautiful person to his life. He wouldn't deny that he would miss her presence, but it didn't stop him from wanting to leave for a while.
Now Tyler was thinking about the things they had talked about. Life, in general, his strange addiction of tapping a pen against his lips when he was concentrated, the things that were becoming unbearable to carry inside his consciousness... His eyes widened as realization struck him. He raised his pen to be at the same level as his eyes and stared at it, his face switching to an unamused expression.
"What's wrong?" Questioned Jay as he eyed Tyler, noticing his sudden change in posture.
"Nothing's wrong." Tyler replied way too quickly to his liking. His brother immediately dropped the subject.
"What were you writing?" Jay stepped closer to Tyler's back and he immediately closed his small notebook, putting it inside his backpack.
"It's private stuff, okay? Where's your backpack anyways? We'll probably leave soon."
"It's already inside the car." He smiled.
"Oh, okay. I should leave my things too."
As Tyler got up, his parents came out of the house, carrying a few things that they would probably need as well as their bags. They made their way to their vehicle, and opened its trunk, putting everything inside. Tyler put his backpack as well and proceeded to sit in the backseat. His siblings sat next to him.
