As Sam stood alone on the shoreline, the rhythmic crash of the waves against the shore served as a haunting backdrop to her thoughts. Memories of her past, filled with sorrow and regret, swirled in her mind like a tumultuous storm, threatening to overwhelm her fragile sense of peace.

She couldn't shake the weight of her condition, the constant reminder of her mortality looming over her like a dark cloud. The pain and suffering she had endured seemed to stretch out before her, an endless expanse of misery and despair.

But amidst the darkness, a flicker of light remained. Thoughts of Mon, of the love and kindness she had shown her, pierced through the gloom, offering a glimmer of hope in the midst of her despair. Mon had changed everything for her, had brought light into her darkest moments and had shown her that even in the face of adversity, there was still beauty to be found.

As she gazed out at the vast expanse of the ocean before her, a familiar figure approached her, casting a long shadow on the sand. Nop, with a gentle yet firm expression, stopped beside her, the gravity of his presence pulling her out of her reverie.

"It's almost time, Sam," Nop reminded her softly, his voice carrying a weight that made Sam's heart sink.

Sam turned to him, desperation etched into her features. "Do I really have to go?" she pleaded, her voice trembling. "I can't leave Mon like this. She needs me, and I need her. There must be another way."

Nop's eyes softened with empathy, but his resolve remained unyielding. "I wish it were different," he replied, a note of sorrow in his voice. "But some things are beyond our control. It's time for you to move on."

Tears welled up in Sam's eyes as she clung to the fleeting hope that there might be some way to stay. "Please, Nop," she begged, her voice breaking. "Just a little more time. I don't want to leave her alone. Not yet."

Nop sighed, the burden of his duty heavy on his shoulders. "I understand how you feel, Sam. But the longer you stay, the harder it will be for both of you. Mon is strong, and she will find a way to carry on, just as you would want her to."

Sam turned to Nop, her eyes blazing with intensity. "I can't hurt Mon like you did. You gave up so easily, leaving her in despair. I won't do that to her. I can't."

Nop's face tightened with the weight of old wounds. "You think it was easy for me?" he replied, his voice strained. "You think I didn't feel the pain of leaving her, the girl I was ready to spend my whole life with?"

Sam's gaze didn't waver. "You left her to suffer alone. She needed you, and you weren't there. How can you expect me to do the same?"

Nop took a deep breath, his eyes filled with a sadness that mirrored Sam's own. "I had no choice, Sam. My time was up. I didn't want to leave her any more than you do now. But sometimes, we don't get to choose. Life—and death—doesn't always give us the options we want."

Tears streamed down Sam's face as she shook her head in disbelief. "Mon is stronger than you think," Nop continued, his voice softening. "She survived losing me, and she'll survive this too. She has a strength you can't imagine, and it's because of the love you both share."

Sam pleaded with desperation in her eyes. "Just a little more time, please. I need Mon to feel my love one last time. I can't leave without saying a proper goodbye."

Nop hesitated, then finally nodded. "Alright, I'll give you this time, but when I return, there will be no more excuses. Do what you need to do."

Back in the hospital room, the rhythmic beeping of the machines echoed in the silence. Mon sat by Sam's side, her head resting on the bed, clutching Sam's hand. Suddenly, she felt a faint movement. Sam's fingers twitched, and Mon's eyes shot open in disbelief.
