Tempering the abstract painting paved the path to the basement. Anousha ignored his question and descended the shady, lengthy, and narrow stairs, its entry veiled by the wall. She knew She couldn’t ignore the detectives and remain silent for long, They had questions, and queries about how she came to be here, but she didn’t have to answer them now. Or ever! Now She just has to be eyeful to details and investigate the death of her friend Laiba. Indeed the detectives were competent, the best of the best, and earned the respect of the victims. But deep down, she knew this case was different. She knew the hidden horrors lurking in the darkness. All the while, she felt responsible for her death, her torture, and her murder. She felt guilty and miserable. Death is inevitable, it’s fated, She couldn’t have saved her, but she could catch her culprits, and deliver her justice. The feeling of emptiness drowning her, consuming her but not yet achieved its goal for she will fight her demons to deliver her justice. Just like, she and her team have been doing.  But She was on leave now, studying.

“Stop! Stop! Step one more step forward and I will charge you for trespassing and obstruction of justice”

Edward called her out loudly, rather screamed, to stop her from advancing down, but to no effect, feeling provoked he grabbed her arms harshly. Anousha whimpered and tried to yank her arms free. Her mind screamed, no physical contact, Followed by the extreme charges of aggravated assault on an on-duty officer. She could without breaking a sweat, deliver him hell but striking out the charges would eat the time needed to catch the unsub. Being the employee and officer of J. She had full authority over them. Her rank was higher. Regrettably, it occurred to her that, she was on leave, studying for a double Masters in criminology

Damn, the leave!

Just as she was fueled by aggression and was ready to deliver him hell,

Charles intervened, he grabbed and twisted Edward's other arm, making him lose his grip on Anousha's arm as he winced in pain.

Calm and collected, Charles spoke boldly eyeing him,  “We. Never. Resort. To. Violence. Especially. To. Innocents. And. Women”

Edward was close to hyperventilating, his breath abnormal, and his eyes seeing red. Charles knew Anousha shouldn’t be here, and the fact that she suspects this Villa and came here, either means she got evidence to clean or she’s being Nancy Drew. But He also knew, the fact ‘innocent until proven guilty and the fact that Edward wouldn’t apologize for an eternity even if he felt guilty. He rushed toward Anousha,  seizing the golden opportunity smoothly and rather cunningly, while she was still descending, left hand massaging her right arm. He flashed light down the path and fought words. Finally, facing down, walking down, he choked, barely hiding his mischievousness dancing indecently in his heart. “Sorry”

She stopped, making Charles stop abruptly, and slowly faced him. Athletic built, artistically twinkling face, and dark lively eyes starting back. Followed by an awkward smile, daring dimples to appear.

Cute!

She challenged him.

“Sue me!” and she raised her arms, “and I sue you! And believe me, I will make it worth your time”

Employees on leave were stripped of their duties and authority until they returned, therefore Anousha, was a mere citizen of Greens Universe, trespassing on another’s property, making her vulnerable to being sued. But she promised herself, if certain situation does arise, she will bring hell on the devil.

Whilst Charles was still bewitched by her. All for the better or worse still had to be determined but she didn’t notice, didn’t pay attention to his intense gawking.

The spell broke as Charles answered his call.

“It's a hella lotta shady villa. You were right to suspect.”

Charles interrupted, “ Xavier, your point exactly?”

Xavier rambled enthusiastically “In the 90s, Green City’s terrorizer, David Lee,  tortured and killed 11 girls. Luckily his 12th victim, someone named, wait, ___ Lucy Grey escaped and whistled his location. Want to guess where exactly”

Charles sighed,  “Xavier! It’s really a long day,  there’s no room for your dramatic Qs and As.”

Xavier composed himself and informed “Villa 03 of Paradise Villas. To be exact, the Villa has a basement where he tortured his victims and instead of finding David in the flesh, they found his dead body. Suicide! However, they found his children, who apparently were the saviours of the would-be victim.”
