"I failed, Sora!" Izuku Midoriya cried, "Im not getting into U.A."
Sora couldn't believe his ears, Midoriya...failed? There's no way!
The two boys sat there, in silence. Midoriya cried into Sora's shoulder. The brunette could only hold him.
Sora sensed a darkness in Midoriya.
His mind raced. He needed to bring his friend back to the light. He found himself thinking selfishly, ways to cheer Midoriya up purely so that he could keep him away from darkness.
It was a predisposition to be against darkness, but Sora realized that he wouldn't be able to bring Sora to the light if he just focused on that aspect of it alone. He needed it to be genuine, not just a job well done.
"Izuku, can I call you that?" Sora began. Midoriya looked up from Sora's now wet chest and nodded his head. "I don't take back what I said before. You can become a hero."
Midoriya pushed away from Sora, "Why are you telling me this," he sniffled, "I FAILED the entrance exam. There's no way I can become a hero now." Midoriya shot up from his seat and began walking away, but Sora grabbed his hand.
"All Might knows it too, Izuku. He knows you can be a hero. Ten months ago he told me that he sensed potential in you. Surely that's enough. I know you can be a great hero just like All Might," Sora reassured the greenette.
Midoriya looked back and hesitated. Light or Dark, that was his two choices. Sora glared at Izuku with determination, his heart shining with light.
The two stared at each other, until...
...A week later, Sora awoke on his now-comfortable bed. The shack was at the edge of the city, it was comfortable and manageable. Cheap too!
Today's the day, Sora thought, Our letter from U.A.
The boy checked the mail and, sure enough, there it was. A letter with a U.A. Insignia on the wax. He picked it up and strolled over to his room.
Sora felt uncertain. He had gathered 40 points, much less below the points he wished to achieve. Present Mic had never told the examinees what the required amount of points was. For all he knew, the written test was what was going to decide his enrollment in the hero school.
He opened the letter and found a metal disk inside. Confused, he fiddled with it until suddenly it opened up and a projection was found on his wall.
"Let's see here, Sora. No surname?" A gruff man with long hair, dead eyes with heavy eyebags, and he seemed to be in a yellow sleeping bag, said to somewhere off-screen. "Well then, Sora," he yawned.
"You got 40 points on the practical exam and completely failed the written test," the hero, Sora assumed remembering what Midoriya had muttered during the orientation, sighed.
Sora grimaced, had he failed? Would he not get into U.A.? His heart dropped. He needed the school, it was his only shot at finding a way home to everyone.
"However," the sleeping bag hero began once more, "For the practical exam, there was another factor taken into consideration.
RESCUE POINTS."
Sora's mind flashed to Jiro. The Keyblade wielder had saved her from the 0-point robot. If he hadn't been there...if he hadn't acted like a hero, she would've died.
"Sora, when no one else would, you rescued another examinee and took down the 0-point robot. We would have shut the machine down had you not, of course." The hero stated.
Sora's heart started racing. He was filled with hope and determination. He couldn't believe what he was hearing.
"60 rescue points were added on top of your original 40 villain points, bumping you up to 100 points in total," The yellow caterpillar said in a monotone voice.
He continued, "This places you at the top of the list in terms of points gathered in the practical exam," Sora saw that the man had a small smile, "Welcome to the U.A. High School hero course."
...Izuku had been dreading this day for the past week. He felt better about it, after talking with Sora.
"I know you can be a great hero, just like All Might!"
The words rang in Midoriya's head constantly, beating at his self-consciousness. He held the letter with the U.A. Insignia on it, hands shaking. He thought, Maybe I can get in on just the written test?
But he knew better than to hold on to such a false hope.
He ripped it open. The metal disk fell out and sprouted open with a mini projector inside. The device played a video on Izuku's room wall.
"Is this thing on?" A muscular man with blonde hair asked.
Izuku's heart sank. Did All Might record a video just to tell the boy he failed? That he was a failure of a successor?
"Young Midoriya," All Might started once he figured out the red light meant the camera was recording, "You did well on the written test, but got ZERO points on the practical exam."
Izuku's eyes started watering. He debated stomping the mini-projector to pieces...
"However," the pre-recorded All Might continued unknowing of Izuku's immense worry, "We took into consideration other factors when deciding upon points earned by the examinees, RESCUE POINTS!" All Might laughed heartedly.
He explained that Midoriya had received immense praise from the judges, due to his heroic action of saving the girl with the gravity quirk. The boy was shown a video of the girl pleading with Present Mic to divide her points with her savior.
"She was refused, of course, but a kind gesture nonetheless!" The video made Izuku cry, he couldn't believe she had gone through the trouble just to try and give him some of her points.
"Kid, you did good out there," All Might said, "60 Rescue points were awarded to Izuku Midoriya for the rescue of Ochaco Uraraka, you passed." All Might reached his hand out, and smiled bigger than Izuku had ever seen him smile before,
"Welcome, to YOUR hero academia."
Izuku broke down. What else could he do? He opened his bedroom door to see his mom standing there, eyes wide and hands covering her mouth at the appearance of her son.
Izuku hugged her, he held onto her for dear life. "I passed, Mom," he laughed in relief.
"I'm going to be a hero." As the tears poured from his eyes, he reflected on All Might, Kacchan, and Sora. The only reason he got this far is because of them. His biggest inspiration, his best friend, and his supporter.
This is the story of how Izuku Midoriya became the world's very own Guardian of Light.
