Eventually you and soap made it back to your place.
You stood outside in the car rental in your driveway, waiting until soap came back outside from your house as he held a small bag of all his things. You had rolled down the window , waiting for him to emerge from the house and as he did you whistled at him.
"Hurry up, yeah?"
You raised your tone a bit having to start up the car again as you didn't want to waste gas and keep it running.
"Yeah yeah I'm coming , we get to the airport and leave the car in one of the ports off far."
He spoke as he walked around and went back into the passenger seat with his bag in hand.
"It's in your name so we'll be fine."
You replied , Soap nodded and climbed into the passenger seat, settling in with his bag beside him. As you put the car in gear and started to pull out of the driveway, you glanced over at Soap and caught a glimpse of the exhaustion in his eyes.
"You okay?" you asked turning to face him as you tried to keep your eyes on the road.
"Yeah,"
Soap murmured, rubbing his eyes with one hand. "Just tired a bit."
He added.
"You should try to get some sleep"
you suggested.
"We're not leaving until later and we got some time to kill while heading to the airport."
Soap nodded again, closing his eyes and leaning back against the seat. You continued on, driving through the quiet streets of where you lived in Nevada with only the sound of your car and the occasional bird chirp in the distance.Soap stood sleeping for the majority of the time that you stood driving. Keeping curled up in his seat in a way with his arms tucked close to him and the soft sounds of his breath being heard as well , you often glanced at him every so often to make sure that he was okay. As you drove you still though about when he had called you , the seriousness in his tone , the slight feeling of fear and sadness as well. You were one to accept things but you never really got over things which made things a bit more difficult. As much as you accepted that Gaz is dead you can't get over the fact that he's actually gone. Could you say even accepted it fully? In a way yes. But not fully. You know he won't come back but there's a feeling that welled inside you that made you think back to the times you spent with them on missions and such.
You continue to drive as Soap slept soundly in the passenger seat. You couldn't help but feel a twinge of sadness, thinking about the countless missions and memories you had shared with Gaz. Despite his teasing and annoying habits at times, Gaz had always had your back. He was a solid reliable friend, and you missed him dearly.
As you drove, your thoughts turned to Soap. He was a fun , goofy jokester but you felt a strange sense of kinship with him. Despite his stoicism, you sensed a deep sadness within him, a sense that he was carrying a heavy burden. You knew that Soap had been thinking about Gaz too but you couldn't wonder what was actually running through his mind. As you drove on through the empty roads, you made a silent vow to be there for Soap, and to help him in whatever way you could. You knew that the road ahead would be long and challenging, but you were determined to face it together, as friends. As time flew you eventually made your way to the airport. You stopped short about a mile off with the car you had rented under soaps named and you hit the brakes causing the car to come to a halt , making soap jolt up a bit in his seat as the seatbelt grew tight at the sudden stop , snagging him. His eyes opened slowly and he gave a small grumpy look as he was awoken from his slumber and you gave him a small smirk as you grabbed your only essentials , your toothbrush and toothpaste , along with cash and your fake ID that you were given as for the two plane tickets that price had given you and soap in the files carried with you as well.
"Wake up sleeping beauty we got shit to it."
You spoke up as you unbuckles yourself and gave soap a light yet firm tap on the cheek to try and wake him up.
"Jesus woman , should've worn a damn hard hat with all your Driving..still worse than ghost."
He muttered as he yawned and unbuckled himself and you rolled your eyes.
"Your dramatic you know that?"
You looked at him and he waved you off , looking out the window seeing that you were both near the airport.
"I'm not as dramatic as the time damn nearly cried over a damn toad that caught fire outside of base."
He smiled at you and you gave him a small look.
"I'm an asshole not a monster , that toad did not deserve to go down like that."
You look at him as you remember the time on base back when roach was alive and he accidentally shot off his pistol and caused a spark as there was gas on the ground from the humvees and there was a toad near by that got caught in the fire."Yeah yeah whatever you say woman."
Soap murmurs as he steps out of the car and he grabs his things from the back. You followed in suit and you waited for him and watched as he grabbed the bag he packed and you let off a small grin while he cocked a confused eyebrow at you.
"What?"
He asked.
"Nothing. Just watching the passenger princess get his things."
You chuckled slowly and he glared at you as he was a little grumpy from being woken up so soon.
"Put a boot on it."
He muttered as he closes the door and looks at the car."Better get me back for this."
"You said it was gonna be part of the national debt right? Was bought in favor."
"Sure about that l/n?"
"Can always get paid in other ways mactavish."
One was waiting for dawn to come while others lurked about waiting to be used as pawns.
