"You do know that this is your home, right?" Kristy asks while hugging me. We've just finished loading the last of my bags. I nod, feeling a bit emotional for the first time.

"It's just work, Kris. Of course, I'll be back when it'll be over. Maybe a year, give or take." I thought about it. If I need to open the bakery, a year's saving would be enough. I'll come back to this house, that if Kristy won't have a new roommate. I look at her and suddenly feel guilty.

"How's she?" I refer to her mother. She looks away for a second before letting out a deep breath.

"Don't worry, I'm saving up. With the new job I can easily send her to rehab and start a new life." She gives me a small smile. Fine, I know at the start, I told you all how Kristy can be bitchy at times. Scratch that. She is the sweetest girl I've ever known. Once you know her.

"Oh, before I forget, those colors are hideous on you. You wouldn't want to go to Mr. Lauder like that on the first day. Personally, I'd fire you on your first day for wearing... these." She makes a face as she looks at my hoodie and jeans and I roll my eyes. Okay, never mind. Still a bitch.

I want to tell her that he won't be seeing what I wear but instead, I just roll my eyes. "If she brings trouble call me or Mace." I instruct as I get into the waiting car Rose had sent to pick me up.

"Love yah!" She waves as she gets into the building. I roll the window up and lean back and shut my eyes. I'm terrified and excited at the same time. The drive takes about an hour and a half because of the busy streets. We stop in front of two large black gates that automatically open letting us in. I gasp at the sight ahead of me.

Mansion? A castle is what people call mansions these days? Well, I guess it's because it has a modern architecture that's why calling it a castle wouldn't be fitting but still. How can anyone afford this? I hear Dan, the driver, laugh making me realize I asked the question out loud.

"Well, get used to it Lily, this is your new home." He says before alighting. I do the same. I feel a cool breeze on my skin making an involuntary smile appear on my face. "This way." Dan says. I turn to take my things, but he stops me. I follow him into the palace where I'm greeted with an indoor fountain.

"Lily!" Rose's warm voice greets me, and I turn to her direction with a smile. "It's good that you'd make it here."

"I'm excited to work in this palace." I say, gesturing the whole place and she laughs before turning to Dan.

"See to it that all her belongings are moved to her new room. Maria here will show you where it is." A girl I hadn't noticed before moves forward and stands in front of me.

"Good to see you girl. We'll be besties." She giggles and I chuckle at her enthusiasm. Rose rolls her eyes as she turns and starts walking, my cue to follow her.

"That is Maria. She cleans the master's quarters." She says. I don't comment on the title as we walk into another room. The kitchen "Mr. Lauder will be back late at night so Maria can show you around after you're done settling in. But first things first. Let's get you something to eat." I walk along the ceramic island as I savor in everything. Everything looks so expensive in white and red.

"We just had our lunch." She explains as she places a plate with about four sandwiches and a glass of juice beside it.

"Thank you." I tell her. Everything is so overwhelming. I eat about two of them and thank her then clean the plate and glass and store them appropriately.

"You'll get used to it." Sarah says. Maria skips into the kitchen just in time. Sarah gives her instructions on what to do and we leave to my new room.

"You are so lucky." Maria gushes as we climb up a flight of stairs.

"Why?" We walk through a long hallway, and she points at a white double door.

"That's Mr. Lauder's room." I nod at the piece of information. "This is yours." She shows me the doors directly opposite to his. I open the door to find a room so big that I could fit my whole apartment in it.

"Damn! I still can't believe you're sleeping on the same floor as the master." She says as she looks around too. I notice my boxes on a queen-sized bed.

"Why? Where am I supposed to sleep?" I open the door to the balcony overlooking some beautiful hills and a small forest.

"Ms. Sarah's room, first floor. Us maids have our own beautiful quarters away from the mansion. Mr. Lauder never allows anyone in this floor apart from Ms. Sarah and me." I nod, taking in everything she says.

"Let's unpack." Maria announces and we walk to the boxes. Unpacking everything take a little under an hour but by the time we're done, we both crave for a cold drink. the room looks cozier but still I don't have enough things or clothes to fill it up. We go have a lemonade as Maria gives me a tour of the house.

By the time we're done with everything, I feel so tired and sweaty and so I go back to my new room and take a shower.

"We are here for just a year Lily." I remind myself as I put on some clothes. Afterall, seeing all this gave me a reality check. Luka Lauder would never be with someone like me.

Sarah told me earlier that I could go to sleep and meet Mr. Lauder tomorrow but I insisted on doing it today. For some reason, I wanted him to know I was here. A quick shower eases my nerves and I get into a yellow cotton dress that reaches just above my knees. I spray a bit of my favorite spray and hop out into the long hallway.

I hear Sarah's voice, talking as she gets closer, while another voice responds. Luka! He's already here.

"Oh, Lily, I thought you already went to bed dear." She acknowledges me.

"I wasn't feeling sleepy yet." I respond.

"Good evening, sir." I greet.

"That will be all, Mrs. Washburn." He dismisses her.

"Alright. have a good night you two." Sarah says before turning and leaving in the direction they came from. I stand awkwardly as the boss passes before deciding to go back to my room.

"Why aren't you following, Ms. Farrah?" He asks from outside his door. A small gasp leaves my mouth as I quickly walk towards him. I open his door as soon as I get to his side. Luka gets into his spotless room, and I notice that like his condo, everything is white too.

"Uhm!" I start before clearing my throat. "Is there anything you need, sir?" I ask as calmly as I can.

"I believe Mrs. Washburn has informed you everything you need to know. Your duties especially."

"Yes, sir."

"My rules?"

"Yes."

"Good. Tomorrow, you are to meet with my stylist. You need to look your part if you'll always be beside me."

"What?"

"I've already given then an idea of clothes you'll choose from. That is all. You may leave now." He turns immediately and I leave the room to mine still in shock.

What does he mean by always be beside him?
