The sand of the path made a satisfying crunch underneath my feet as the first birds awoke with their cheerful chirping. The morning air was chilly as the sun wasn't out completely yet.

A beautiful sunset was forming in front of me as the moon made place for the sun. I took a deep breath in, I felt relaxed and content in this moment, as I often do in the early mornings.

I wasn't a morning person perse, I found it difficult to get out of the comfort of my soft and warm bed. But when I stepped out the door my weariness slowly crept away and I felt awake.

I continued my way down the sandy path until I reached the stable. I glided the door open and was greeted by loud horse neighs and several faces reaching out their stable.

"Good morning to you too." I said softly, a smile creeping it's way up my face. I enjoyed feeding the horses, especially in the morning. They were always happy to see you, even though it was probably just because they were hungry.

I heard footsteps come closer and the door slid open.

"Good morning." Amelia said, closing the door behind her.

"Good morning! Can you help me fill the feeding bins? It's quite heavy." I asked her.

"Ofcourse!" She said, putting down her stuff and walking over to me.

"Any plans for today?" I asked her, as we picked up a heavy bag of feed.

"Yes actually, I have cross training with Supreme at 12, so I have to leave around 9." She tells me.

Supreme was her 4* eventing horse who she has had for the past 3 years. The 13 year old gelding had competed till 3* with his old owner, and Amelia has trained him to a niveau higher, but she wants to go for the highest possible. She's a good rider, so I don't doubt her.

"When is your next competition?" I ask her, I know she wants to be part of the junior team, which I think she'll manage to do if she goes as well as last season.

"In a month, in Georgia. But he's in good shape, so I'm not too worried." She tells me.

"Great! Well, thanks for helping." I tell her, waving goodbye as she walks over to her own horse.

I spend most of the morning cleaning stables, putting the horses outside, and inside again as well as riding and doing other chores. It's not that bad, especially when your in the company of others.

"Okay, were both free tonight so were going to watch a movie!" Tori says exitedly as we take the very pregnant Joy inside. There are three mares who have been succesfully bred, so now it's just a matter of time till the foals come.

"Deal! We can go after we fed the horses at six." I tell her, as I take Joy's halter off and put it away.

We walk back to the house, where Matilda is sitting on the couch reading a book.

"Ah, hello Tori! What a surprise to see you here, are you joining us for dinner?" She asks, looking away from her book.

"If you don't mind!" Tori says.

"Ofcourse! No need to ask." She says, standing up from the couch walking to the kitchen. Tori and I followed her and sat down at the kitchen table.

"Look, I hung up a camera in Joy's stable, we hope she's going to give birth tonight." Matilda says, handing us her phone. There on the little screen stood very pregnant Joy eating her hay.

"Really! I hope so, I'd love to see the new one getting born." Tori says. I agree, I love foals, I mean who doesn't.

We eat dinner, chatting away and eating the pasta Matilda was kind enough to make for us.

"We're upstairs!" I tell Mathilda as Tori follows me up to my room.

I walk down the hallway and stop to open the door.

"Okay, I say we watch bridgerton, the new season just got out." Tori tells me whilst plopping down on my bed.

"Yes! I totally forgot I loved the first two seasons." I say, sitting on the carpet, leaning my back against my double bed.

The first episode plays for a bit until Tori can't help but start to talk, again.

"I'm so exited for the foal, I can't wait to see him." She says exitedly, looking me in the eyes.

"Him? Are you that sure?" I ask her.

"Yup, I have a gut feeling." She says full of confidence.

I laugh at her, and can't stop laughing when she does too.

Like clockwork Richard walks into my room.

"Girls, quick, I think Joy is foaling!" He says, already dressed in his rain boots and his long jacket on. He reminded me so much of my grandfather.

"What! Let's go!" Tori exclaimed getting on to her feet at an instant.

We ran down the stairs, rapidly putting on our shoes and jackets. Richard was already a few meters in front of us.

We walked into the stables straight to the end where the foaling mare was laying down, struggling.

Her light bay coat was covered in sweat as she was trying her best to push the foal out.

"Mathilda already called the vet, so they shouldn't be long." Richard says, kneeling down next to the horses head.

"Is there anything we can do?" I asked him, as me and Tori were just standing there.

"Not really, we just have to wait now." he tells us.

We waited there for five minutes until the vet got there. Neither Tori or I understood much of what was happening, as we both didn't have a lot of experience with foals.

But after twenty minutes, there it was.

"He's so cute!" Tori says, looking at the foal in awe.

"You don't know what it is yet, you can't." I tell her again as we laugh together slightly.

"No, I can't, but I just think he is." she says.

"Have you decided on a name yet?" I ask Richard.

"No, but it has to start with a U." He says.

"KWPN?" I ask, not knowing what breed Joy is.

"Yes." He says.
