-billie was cutting up the asparagus, the smooth chopping sound satisfying in the grand kitchen where she stood.
the grey turtleneck hugged her skin, paired perfectly with her black trousers and glasses. her black hair was neatly tucked behind her ears, her outfit seamlessly matching the rich, luxurious scenery of the house she worked in.
she was a full-time chef for a wealthy family, and she lived in the grand home most of the time. tonight, she was in the middle of making an italian pasta dish with garlic bread. after dinner, she planned to prepare a strawberry cake for dessert.
billie loved her job, and the family paid her very well.
the kitchen was a chef's dream: spacious, with state-of-the-art appliances and marble countertops that gleamed under the soft, warm lights. the aroma of garlic and herbs filled the air, mingling with the scent of the fresh bread baking in the oven.
billie stopped chopping the asparagus when she noticed the noodles were done boiling. she walked towards the pot, carefully taking it off the stove and moving to drain the water.
as she did this, she heard footsteps approaching the kitchen, making her lift her head. she saw the father of the home, mr. adam, entering the room. he was a tall man with a kind face, dressed in his usual business casual attire.
"the garlic bread smells good," he remarked with a warm smile. billie chuckled, feeling a sense of pride in her work. "you know I try to do my best," she replied.
mr. adam nodded, leaning against the counter. "do you know when dinner will be ready? my daughter had a long flight from europe. I want her to be treated with a good meal when she's back."
"I'm going to be finished soon," billie assured him. "just a few more minutes for the pasta and garlic bread, and then I'll start on the strawberry cake for dessert."
"sounds perfect, that's her favorite dessert," he says. "our old maid used to make it all the time for her."
billie had never met the family's daughter. she had only met the twin boys, who were around the ages of fifteen and fourteen, and the grandparents who lived in the house as well.
