Shirou kneeled in front of a gravestone, praying. Below it, was the corpse of Kirei Kotomine. Or what was left of it anyway. He decided to visit the grave, to honor the man that he knew. Not the man that he actually was. In that grave it was carved: Here lies Kotomine Kirei, an adherent of The Almighty 'til the end.
One might notice that the blonde beauty called Gil wasn't with him. That is because she opted to stay at the church. Saying that the Caren was fun to talk to and deciding that she would laze around after uncharacteristically trying too hard during the war. To this day he still could not comprehend how that woman's mindset works.
"May his soul be purified and forgiven. For it is evil to wish hell upon your kin. May your guidance lead his troubled mind unto peace. Amen." With the sign of the cross. He finished his prayers. The priest stood up and wiped the grime off his jacket.
Just then, he suddenly felt a presence in his back. Not a malicious one. But it was laced with subtle hostility. Shirou turned his back from the grave, and saw a young woman roughly his age. Black hair tied in a ponytail, blue eyes. A red polo and jeans. And the face of the standard description of a top Japanese beauty.
"Rin...Tohsaka. What brings you here?" He spoke the name. It was not that they did not know each other before the war. In fact they were acquaintances since they were children, only separating when Shirou started his executor training abroad.
He was met with an annoyed scoff. "You visited that bastard's grave." She remarked. "What was it? Guilt?" The heiress asked.
Shirou just responded with a thin smile. "No. To feel guilt in this action is to feel regret upon the Lord's will." He said in a calm tone. "Besides, he did still raise me at the end of the days." He then shot back with a question. "Anyway, it is rude to answer a question with another question, is it not?"
"Ugh. I forgot how similar your speech patterns are." She whispered under her breath, before speaking loudly. "I was visiting my family." She finally answered. Much to Shirou's relief.
"Ah, sorry. It's a habit." He scratched the back of his neck. He does find himself emulating Kirei at random from time-to-time. Truth to be told he doesn't really like speaking like that since it makes some people uncomfortable.
"It's even weirder when you suddenly switch back." Rin just sighs. "Anyways. I also came here to say goodbye. Apparently, my thesis is actually enough to get me admitted to the Clock Tower." She spoke, with a hint of surprise in her voice.
"Congratulations then." He extended a hand. He knew about the Clock Tower since his training started, and how some magi would do anything just to get inside. He was also told to steer clear of that place, a place of high defiance if the Lord's will as the higher-ups had put it.
Despite all that he wishes all the best for Rin. She was one of the very few magi that he was fond of despite her... attitude. Truth to be told, he felt pity for his friend, she was the only member left of her family, with her sister dead from the war, all the burden of the Tohsaka's secrets are in her shoulders. He was called an oddball by his peers for not hating much on magi but only their beliefs. Some zealots actually declared him an outright heretic much to his indifference.
"Thank you." Rin received the hand and shook it. "Truly." A few moments later, the magus heiress let go of Shirou's hand and said her goodbyes.
She turned her back and spoke for the last time. "I'm going home. My flight's scheduled tomorrow. I gotta pack my things." Rin then followed, with a playful tone this time. "You should go back too! I'm sure your hubby misses you so much, knowing how clingy she is." She said, with a laugh.
