Chapter 54 - Lovely conversations

I watched as the male sat near me on the bench, taking note of his dark roots and blond hair. We sat in silence for a while, glancing at each other once in a while.

"So.." I started, looking over at him. "Weathers nice today, isn't it?"

He glanced at me, only nodding once as his green eyes looked into mine for a moment.

"You don't talk much, do you?"

"Not really."

"I guessed so. Are you an officer?"

"Lieutenant."

"Lieutenant?"

"Davis."

"You're Lieutenant Davis?"

"Yes. And you are?"

"[Y/n]."

"Pleasure meeting you, [Y/n], but I'm afraid I've got business to get back to. See you around, kid." He nodded, giving me a small wave as he stood up before leaving me alone. I waved back at him, though certain he wouldn't see as he walked off.

I honestly can't tell if I'm lucky or unlucky to know him.

Going back home, I took a possibly much longer route, ending up having to go through a dark alleyway.
It honestly spooked me.
But I was fine, right? Not like I would see a.. boiled looking being in the shadows.. with it's head being the only visible thing, its body was blending in with the shadows, though it did look to be 8 feet tall. Having no upper jaw as it seemed, its lower jaw dislocated and hanging, having a tint of red to the creatures melted looking head. It's eyes were small compared to its dislocated jaw, pupils dilated..

It looked like an amalgamation.

A literal nightmare.

I stared at it with wide eyes, noticing things sticking out of it like needles, or.. hair.. somehow...

I immediately went into a sprint, sharply turning a corner as I did so, now out of the dark alley, sprinting until I couldn't anymore, almost at the house.
I slowed down to a stop, panting slightly as I rested my hands on my knees, trying to catch my breath from whatever I had just seen.

What... was that..?

It most obviously was not human, that was for sure.

I knew I probably shouldn't have gone through dark alleys like that.

I approached the house after catching my breath, knocking on the door with my knuckles and waiting for someone to answer.
To my delight, it was Jonah. He raised an eyebrow at me as I went inside, shutting the door behind me as I locked it.

"Geeze, you look like you just ran a marathon. What happened?" He questioned, raising an eyebrow.

"Don't worry about it. Where's Mark?" I asked, looking around to try and spot him out.

Jonah just shrugged before saying, "He told me that he wanted me to tell you he had to get back to something at his house, so.."

"So he just left?" I pushed my eyebrows together, confused.

"Yeah, basically." Jonah casually said, not seeming bothered by it one bit. "I do kind of wonder what he needed to get back to that was so important, but.. he just kinda looked grumpy."

"Grumpy?"

"Yep. Honestly.. he kind of looks grumpy all of the time, not gonna lie.."

"Are you serious?"

"What? At least I'm being honest!"

I rolled my eyes playfully, giving off a slight chuckle and a scoff before removing my shoes and going straight to my room to change into more comfy clothes.

I walked back down, noticing Jonah, now on the couch, looking bored as hell.

"Someone looks bored out of their mind."I chuckled, moving to sit on the couch with him.

He looked up, flashing me a playful grin as he brightened up, no longer looking as bored.

From then on, me and him had an extremely long conversation, it having ended at 1 AM, when we both got so tired we just fell asleep on the couch.
