Lillian Black
I WAS ALREADY running late the morning after Mattheo's fight with Adrian Pucey. My thoughts kept me up all night. After the boys broke up the fight, Mattheo had stormed off to his dorm. I quickened my pace to Advanced Potions. I looked down at the small watch on my wrist, cursing at the time. As I turned the corner to the door of the classroom, I came face to face with Mattheo.
We both stopped, and stared at eachother outside of the door.
"Uh, hi." I bravely said. I wanted to ask him about last night. What made him start a fight with Adrian?
"Hi." Mattheo said back. We stood in silence for a few seconds.
"Are we just going to stand here or can I open the door?" Mattheo asked, reaching for the door handle. Whatever.
As we entered the classroom, I suddenly felt slightly embarassed as the whole class stared. Professor Slughorn turned around.
"Glad you two could join us." Slughorn said, grinning. Though his right eye was closed shut, as if it pained him to speak. As Mattheo began to walk froward, Slughorn visibly tensed. He almost looked scared of Mattheo.
"Please, grab some books from the cupboard. Now, as I was saying, I've prepared some concotions this morning..."
Mattheo and I walked over to a cupboard in the corner of the classroom. I opened it, revealing a nearly empty cupboard. There was a spair galleon, some dust, and two Advanced Potion Making books. One was a newer edition, and the other was nearly falling apart at the seams.
I looked to my right and up at Mattheo, who peered down at me, aftering see our options. As if reading my mind, Mattheo reached his arm out for the newer book. Even though I was closer, his arm was longer, and much stronger, as we both tried to grab a hold of the new book.
"Let go!" I whisper yelled, attempting to grab the book. I was of course unsuccessful. I pouted when Mattheo grabbed the book finally, holding it with one hand. I reluctantly grabbed the dusty old book. As he held the book above my head, I glared up at his eyes. And then, I was hit with a wave of infatuating smells, consuming my senses...
"Asshole." I mumbled. Mattheo smirked.
"The truth telling serum." Hermione Granger said, answering a question from Slughorn.
Mattheo and I joined Pansy, Draco, and Enzo at a table.
"Amorentia. The most powerful love potion in the world." Hermione continued.
"Trade with me, Harry." I leaned over the table behind me, offering the book out to Harry. Mattheo was watching me, clearly not listening to Hermione or Slughorn speak.
"What? No. I don't want that manky old book." Harry protested.
"Harry."
"Fine." Harry muttered, taking the book from me and giving me his. His wasn't brand new condition, so it wasn't that bad of a trade.
As I turned back around, Mattheo was still looking at me. I gave him a cocky smile, placing the book infront of me on the table.
"Thank you for sharing. Now this is a curious little potion, known as Felix Felicis." Professor Slughorn said.
"Do you smell that?" Mattheo mumbled to Draco.
"Smell what?" Enzo asked Mattheo, nudging Draco.
As I watched Slughorn hold the small vile of Felix Felicis in the air, I was overcome with that unmistakeable feeling again. A plethora of cinnamon, mint cigarettes, rain... I look at Pansy, next to me. No, that's not what she smells like.
"It's like...Spring. Fireworks. Vanilla- are you wearing perfume?" Mattheo asks Draco.
I try to focus on Professor Slughorn and his presentation of liquid luck. I could reall use that vile when examinations come.
"Ten galleons...By Christmas..." Enzo whispers to Draco.
I'm about to shush them myself, but Professor Slughorn caught the attention of everyone when he announced that he would be giving one vile of Liquid Luck to a student.
"In the hour that remains, all you have to do is brew an acceptable draught of Living Death. Page 10 of your books." Slughorn said.
The task started off well, with the instructions asking for simple ingredients and directions. When I was halfway through making the potion, I realized I was falling behind. I was ready the directions twice over, and acting very carefully with each ingredient that went into my couldron. Looking around the classroom and seeing that nearly everyone was almost finished, I glanced down at my book. Cut up two Sopophorous Beans.
I grabbed two Sopopohorous Beans, and generously tossed them into my potion.
I gasped when a small explosion of black smoke shot out of the couldron. Everyone around me jumped. Pansy laughed at me.
By the end of the hour, Harry was the only one who could even come close to making Living Death. The french braids in my hair were messy, but my hair was not nearly as puffy as Hermiones. As Harry stood in front of the class, I suspiciously eyed the beat up book in his arms.
"Congratulations, Harry. Use it wisely." Professor Slughorn said. The classroom slowly clapped.
"That would've been useful in our match tomorrow." Enzo mumbled.
Draco huffed. "We don't need luck."
"Not to mention, you'd be expelled if you used that before a match." I told them.
"Are you always this tight?" Mattheo asks.
"Are you always a royal prat?" I retort.
"The tension." Enzo mumbles to Pansy.
