Chapter Eight

I did not wake up as soon as the dream was over. I slept in silence, no other dreams that night. I do not know how to explain the rest of the night except for this: It felt like you could finally rest after hours of the hardest work imaginable. It was like a break for your mind to process everything that has happened to you. After a couple more hours of sleep I woke up at around eight in the morning. I went straight up and got dressed. I put my hair up and went downstairs. "Good morning Elyse." I said as I walked out the door.

It was a sunny day. Which was odd because there were only a couple sunny days a year. I ignored the odd weather and kept on walking. The other odd thing that day was that no one was outside enjoying this miraculous weather. It turned out that it was just too early for a walk that morning. All that was in my mind was a small voice saying: That is not far enough, keep going. It said the phrase about a couple hundred more times. Then I made it to the conclusion that nowhere is far enough from home. I stopped on the side of a road and stood there for a while before I started talking to myself.

I can't go any farther, so what's the point if I even try? There is always an end of the road, the point where you should just turn around and go home. I turned around and started heading home. That was when I realized the sun shining high above me. I noticed the running water of the river. I noticed every tree along the street was standing straight up. How I heard my footsteps on the road. That ment I was still alive, and breathing. Sometimes we mistake the small feelings, sights, and sounds for useless pieces that are played in our life for the reminders that we are actually here breathing and living.

As I walked home I tried to point out every extraordinary thing that I could see. People started to crowd the streets. Many went into stores because of how hot it was outside. I saw James going into the post office. I tried to quickly walk away, but he saw me and yelled,

Lucile. I turned around and I said, James , hello, but I really need to be somewhere. Where? He asked his zit covered face lifting in curiosity. "The bakery, I need to get more flour." "That is odd, I saw you there very recently." James added. "Oh, well we go through flour very fast in my family." "If you insist, but if you ever get some free time we might be able to grab a drink." "Sounds lovely, but I do not think I will be free until a couple months." I said as I was trying to walk away. "Well I bet we could make some time." James said as he grabbed my hand.

"I'm sorry James but I really need to go. Goodbye." I quickly walked away. I made it home where I mostly helped Marie with her wedding details. After we made dinner with Elyse. We ate at the dinner table and were talking about the odd weather that happened that day.

I said goodnight to Marie and went up to my bedroom. I got to bed and turned off the light. I sat and waited for me to fall into the deep river of sleep.
