Lucian's POV

We walked down to the dining hall and took a spot in the line for breakfast. They was an entire line of chattering students ahead of us.

"Man I can't believe Professor Theia is making us write a 7 page essay for class. And to top it off, other teachers have also assigned a boatload of homework. Are we not supposed to sleep or what?" Mason complained about classes.

I only half listened to him, staring here and there, scearching for Atalie. My eyes suddenly landed on a trio of girls sitting not very far from us. From the looks of things, laughter and gossip flowed freely at the table. Mason nudged me out of my trance and I noticed that we had reached the table on which the food was piled. Breakfast items of all kind stared back at me. There were omlette, sausages, sandwiches, hash browns and toast. A small table to the side contained glasses of coffee, tea and fruit juice. I piled my plate with the food, grabbed a cup of coffee and deliberately led my friends to the table behind the one where Atalie and her friends were sitting.

Making a show out of stoping to greet her–as if I had just noticed she was here–I said, "Hey Atalie! Fancy running into you here!"

At the sound of my voice, Atalie turned around. When she noticed me, her face broke into a smile and she greeted me. "Hey Lucian, what are you doing here?"

I raised my plate a little higher and she flushed. "Yeah, that was a dumb question. It's breakfast hour, so you are obviously here for breakfast."

Before I could reply to her, Mason piped in with a smile on his face, "Who's your friend Luc?"

I moved aside a bit so that Atalie could see who was talking to her when she gasped at the sight. Mason and Maxon were standing behind me in all their twin-faced glory. Honestly speaking, Atalie was hardly the first person to be surprised at the fact that they were identical twins. And when I said identical, I meant not a hair of a difference between them. Her friends appeared as unsettled as she was.

"Hi! I'm Mason Bradley, twin to the greatly dumb Maxon Bradley. A Mortis by Cast and a Necromancer by power, I absolutely love binge watching on Netflix and eating my weight in food." Mason said as a means of introducing himself.

"A Necromancer huh? You're the first one I ran into in all my time here which, admittedly, is not much." Sophia said impressed by Mason's power.

" Why thank you for such kind words of praise my lady." Mason dramatized by taking a bow.

"So you are twins with this guy?" It was Odette who asked this question.

"A curse I know, but it's one I cannot alter."

"I like you! Come sit with us." Odette offfered shifting a few seats so that we would have place to sit.

Typical Mason! I thought with the grin. Of all the people who could gain me access to the little crew,  leave it to Mason to be the perfect choice. He was going to come in handy in my little 'mission' from Dean Wong.

15 minutes into the breakfast and Mason had already charmed the girls. His goofy personality and a penchant for knowing how to talk to any person made it pretty easy for him to assimilate into a group. Plus it didn't hurt that Mason was taking every opportunity possible to say that having a twin like Maxon was nothing short of a curse which, I reckon, was giving him bonus points in Odette's book.

I caught sight of Atalie staring at the two of them and shaking her head, smiling. "Something funny?" I asked her, genuinely curious to know her thoughts.

"Oh, nothing much. It's just that, I've never seen Odette like this at all." She said, gesturing to the duo who was busy arguing about the ending of Destructive Forces and whether or not Princess Lea deserved to have the heart's power.

"Yeah, Mason brings out the child in everybody." I too said with smile.

Their banter continued for at least five more minutes before Sophia interrupted them. "Guys, as riveting as discussion is, why don't we change the topic so that everyone can talk."

"Finally! I thought nobody was going to say that." Maxon exclaimed.

"Why, jealous of your twin Maxxie poo?" Odette

"You wish, you petty little drama queen." Maxon scoffed.

"Enough!" Surprisingly it was Mason who spoke. "Max, control yourself!"

He then turned toward Atalie and wore a sheepish expression as said, "I'm sorry. We came to talk and make friends, not cause trouble like this."

She laughed. "It's alright! I'm loving the fact that Odette is so riled up. She was chattering my head off about anger and it's management, it's fun to see her so angry for once."

At this, Odette, who was busy squabbling with Maxon said, "How dare you, traitor! Siding with the enemy instead of your own friend. Have I taught you nothing?"

Her words made me laugh. It was going to be absolutely no hardship talking and making friends with these girls, especially if it meant I could have some daily entertainment. My gaze went to Atalie, who, just like me, was busy laughing. This was the time I knew that I would do whatever the Dean asked just to make sure I got to make friends with like minded people. Suddenly, the bell rang signalling the end of breakfast.

Atalie got up, plate in hand. "It was fun meeting you guys but I have to get to class. See you soon!" Saying this she walked out to her next class.
