Atalie's POV

I walked down to my potions class after breakfast ended. It was the first practical class we were having and it would be a lie if I said I wasn't nervous. After all, I knew nothing when it came to potions. I scanned my crest at the door, walked in and grabbed the seat closest to the exit. Yeah, I wasn't afraid to admit my fear of the bubbling liquids we were about to brew today.

I had read all about the mishaps a person caused with a potion gone wrong. There was a potion that was supposed to help with hair growth, but the person making it had made a slight mistake in measurements and suddenly the potion supposed to help with hair growth was helping with hairfall. I didn't want to accidentally brew something that killed, maimed or crippled somebody.

Just as I was thinking these thoughts, an average looking blonde girl with a huge smile stood near the empty seat beside me. She had blue eyes and was a little short in her height. Her blond hair was cut in a shoulder length bob with bangs. Her face was round with her cheeks spilling outwards. "Hey! Is this seat taken?" she asked.

I shook my head, indicating no and she slid into that seat. "I'm Raquel Belvoir, nice to meet you. And you are?" smiling the brightest smile she had

"I'm Atalie Rivera." I answered, inwardly wincing at the brightness of that smile. Smiles were not supposed to be that bright. I was pretty sure that having a smile as bright as the sun was a crime in at least one of the states back home.

"Are you excited about brewing potions?"

"Yeah, not so much." I replied honestly. Truth be told, Raquel was the textbook definition of an extrovert. In fact I was sure that the Oxford English dictionary had her face next to the meaning of that word.

"I hear ya! I was so nervous that I couldn't sleep well last night." Raquel's made me feel a smidgen of relief. There was someone who was as worried as I was.

Slowly but surely the class was filling up. People were chatting with friends and acquaintances as they took up seats.

"Do you think the professor is very strict?" Raquel was drumming her dingers on her books as she said those words..

"Can't say." I replied. "Never heard about him at all." Actually, that was a lie. Lucian had told us few things at breakfast but nothing about how the professor was. All he told us was that we would have a great time.

See the thing was that, unlike other classes where only one teacher taught both theory and practical, potionology was taught by two professors. Professor Irish taught the theory part while Professor Christos taught potion brewing. All this time we had been having theory of potionology classes. The practicals were the first time anybody was going to brew a potion.

"I hope he selects something that is easy to brew. I'm so nervous, I'll probably end up making the exact opposite of what we will be asked to make." Raquel broke the silence that had settled between us.

"I'm sure that he has a pretty great idea about the current state of our minds." I told Raquel. "As a result I'm certain that he will choose something that is very easy."

Raquel smiled before she quickly widened her eyes. "I completely forgot to ask, what cast are you from?"

I stuttered, not sure what to answer. Should I tell her that I was a Dual or should I lie? I wasn't sure what my next step should be. Just as I was about to tell a lie, a middle aged man walked into the class. He was red haired and wore a pair of thick glasses. He had a weird scar on the right side of his face and his skin was dark brown with a dusting of freckles.

He kept his books on the table and then turned to us. His nose was slightly crooked and his smile a little reserved. "Good morning class!"

"Good morning professor!", we chorused back.

"Are all of you ready to brew your potions?"

A chorus of yeses and um-hmms answered his question.

"Good! Before we begin, I'd like to formally introduce myself. I am professor Robert Christos, Cast Alchemist and power potionology. I have a few rules for my class that you are expected to abide by.

Rule number 1, potion brewing is serious business. Please, for the sake of all that is holy, do not be under the notion that there will be no consequences for your mistakes." Saying this he turned toward the board that was placed just behind him and wrote something down.

"I would like you all to read what is written behind me." He instructed.

I took a look at the writing and chorused with the rest of the class, "Potions is equal to patience."

"Very good! This is the most basic rule of potionology. Potions and patience are the same. Please do not believe that you can snap your fingers and prepare a potion. Remember this and you will never face any problems during potionology class. Now, before we begin, any questions?"

Seeing that we were giving no answer to his questions, he smiled. "I repeat, speak now or forever hold your peace!" He joked.

The joke evaporated the serious environment in the classroom and a few people laughed openly.

"Now that you all are ready, let us begin with the Hypnos potion."
