"Red!" TSC called from outside her room, "Your cat just had kittens!"

Red had been chilling on her phone until now. She hopped off her bed and pulled the door open.

"Where are they?!"
She asked excitedly.

"I'll show you."

Red and TSC hurried downstairs and TSC led Red to the spot where the kittens were. Three small kittens lay together mewing in a hiding spot by a bush.

"Oh my word!" Red gasped, "They're adorable... But... where is their mom?"

"I think it was that small black cat of yours. She was with them earlier." TSC said.

Red nodded slowy, smile fading.

"TSC can you find a box for them?"
Red asked. TSC nodded and left to get a box.

Red made sure the babies were ok and then left to get some gloves and look for the momma cat.

-

Red walked to her animal area and saw the mom cat laying and sleeping in the sun.

"Nova!" She called the cats name as she approached her. The cat raised her head and looked up at Red. "Why aren't you with your babies? Come on, they're hungry."

The cat ignored Red and got up, stretched, and walked over to the food.

"Don't you care?"
Red asked the cat and bent down to pet her. She picked her up and hurriedly took her to the babies.

She placed the mom cat on the ground in front of the babies, but Nova didn't stay with them. The cat growled and tried to push away from Red to get away from the kittens.

"Come on! You have to take care of your babies!"

"She doesn't care?"
TSC had come back with a box, which he placed on the ground. Red looked at the mom cat angrily and then let her walk away.

"What are you going to do with them?"
TSC asked.

"If she won't care for them, then I will."
Red said stubbornly.

"But they're not going to make it without their mom."

Red didn't respond. She knew he could be right, but she had to try.

"How long ago was there mom with them?"
She asked finally.

"About an hour ago, I think."

Red nodded and got up and hurried inside. She found powder milk, gloves, a bowl, and an eye dropper to feed the kittens.

Quickly, she mixed together warm water and the powder and made the milk for the kittens. She rushed back outside. TSC had left the box on the ground and gone back inside.

Red crouched beside the kittens and slipped the gloves on. She picked one crying baby up and started feeding it milk. Once she was done feeding that kitten, she placed it in the box. She went to pick up the next kitten and suddenly realized the other two kittens still had there umbilical cords attached.

"Oh no..." She mumbled, unsure of what to do now.

She picked up the box with the one kitten and carried it inside. She fed it a little more, trying to think of what to do with the other two kittens. TSC walked in and looked at the box and kitten.

"Where are the others?"

"They still have their umbilical cords attached. I have to remove them somehow. I wish we could call a vet."

"I'm not wasting our money on them, sorry. They're just going to die anyway."

Red looked away. How could he just give up on them like that? Couldn't he just give them a chance?

She got up and walked over to a drawer and picked up some scissors. She was hesitant, but she decided it would be the best thing to do. She walked outside and pulled out her phone and called Purple.

"Hi Purple."

"Hey Red! What's up?"

"So my cat just had kittens, but she won't take care of them, so I have too... And two of them still have there umbilical cords attached and I need to cut them but I'm kinda squirmish about doing that, not gonna lie, so uh, is it fine if I just have you here? Just for support."

"Oh yeah, of course."

"Thanks. I'll set you down right here."

Red place the phone down against the stump of a bush and put the gloves on again. She picked up the kittens and got them out from under the bush.

"Aw, they're crying."
Purple said and Red laughed awkwardly.

Red carefully found the cord and carefully cut it so it was just small and would dry up and fall off naturally. She did the same to the other kitten and then threw the stuff they were stuck to into the bushes to disintegrate.

"Did you do it?"
Purple asked when Red let out a sigh of relief.

"Yep. Thanks for supporting me."
Red laughed.

"No problem."

"Alright, talk to you later."

"Bye bye."

-

Red took the two kittens inside to the other kitten and placed them in the box. She also found some warm cloth and stuffed animals to keep them warm. Suddenly, Yellow walked in. She looked down at the kittens.

"Those things can't stay in here."

"What?! Why?!"
Red asked desperately, slightly shocked by Yellows disgusted.

"They'll keep us up all night and they'll dirty up the house."

Red scoffed but didn't argue. She picked up the box and walked outside with it. She used the dog house and tried to make it work as a warm bed for the kittens overnight.

She didn't know what exactly to do. She wasn't even sure they would survive. But she had to try. She had to. She could just let them die. Even though none of the others believed in her she had to try to keep the kittens alive.

Red felt tears prick in her eyes as she got more and more anxious about the kittens.

"It'll be ok."
She said to one of the crying babies as she gently put them each inside the house. It was more like she was comforting herself.

The sun had now almost completely set and it had already started to get colder.

Red covered the front of the dog house with another box to keep the warmth in.

She stood up and placed a hand on the roof and looked up at the starry sky. She murmured a prayer and fought back the urge to cry. She felt emotional for almost no reason, but the lives of the kittens mattered, and if no one believed that there was a way, then she would have to be the only one fighting for their lives. She was in this fight alone.

"Red!"
Someone called from the house,
"Come inside! Group meeting!"

'Oooh no', Red thought, 'that can only mean more trouble.'
