"And then he told me to watch out for Eugene," I say to Layla over the phone. "Can you believe it?"

"Who's Eugene?" she asks.

"Oh right, you don't know. It's South," I respond.

She scoffed. "South's real name is Eugene? What were his parents thinking?"

"I know right. Anyway, get out that dark green dress out from my closet. I have to meet South in thirty minutes- ish," I say glancing at the clock.

"Alright, what a time waster. See you later."

Call ended.

_______________

I ran inside my house, seeing that I only had five minutes left until South would pick me up.
Considering women are proven to be the best multitaskers, I managed to finish as I saw Eugene's car drive up.

"Wearing mismatching shoes again?" I hear Amelia laugh behind me. "You're going to make the same bad impression you made to me when I came."

"Well at least I got you to stay."

I felt her death stare behind me like lasers, but I ignored it. I've got a date to go to.

A knock on my door not two seconds after.

I cleared my throat and opened the door.

"Hey, Eugene!" Layla called out before I could say hello.

Eugene was holding a rose and an embarrassed look on his face.
"Yeah, hi Layla," he laughed.

I smiled and laughed like an idiot.
Good job, Aviana. You've already managed to make yourself seem like a total goof.

"For you, m'lady," Eugene said, handing me the rose.
"Why thank you," I giggled and took the flower.
I closed the door behind me, feeling quite guilty that I left Layla alone with Amelia, although Layla is pretty mature for her age.
"Something wrong?" Eugene asked.
"No, nothing," I smiled. "Where shall we go?"

Eugene took me to a nice Italian restaurant where the portion sizes are much more than the average person would eat.
We talked about small, silly things, like how underdressed we were. No drama, no current events, no politics. Just a conversation between two people.

It was nice to be a normal teenager, even if it was just for a little while. No business, no watching over the house, no plain old adult stuff. Just catching up on what I was supposed to be doing this whole time, and Eugene was the only one who could make me feel like this.

Maybe after an hour or two after finishing our meal, our date was cut short by a phone call.

"Hello?" Eugene hissed into the receiver.

I took this time to go to the restroom and touch up my makeup.
Eugene is definitely not someone to "beware" I thought as I painted my lips nude. It would've been more obvious if he were a dangerous. Why should I listen to some random pirate guy in a warehouse?

Through the thick walls I heard a scream. A glass break. A gunshot.

"Oh, not today," I say under my breath as I take out a small pistol from my purse.

I peek out the door to see huge, armed, masked men entering, walking all over the restaurant.
They fired aimlessly, women and men screaming trying to escape.

"Aviana," I felt someone grab my hand.
It was Eugene. "We have to go, now."

We both had small guns, firing at the men who were now chasing after us as we ran to the exit.

Why were they running after us? Why now?

We got into the car, completely out of breath.

"You clean?" Eugene gasped.
"Yeah, you good?" I asked.
"Yeah, let's go."

_____________

We drove for hours and parked in some abandoned movie theater and stayed there for the night. We didn't say a word the entire time.
