Entry 5

Dear Fe,

In moments where your cousin is threatening to kill you, the only thing you could do in my case is lock your door and write in your diary.

I've received threats far too many times before, and this girl is speaking a years worth of them. If only "South" would've looked at me different, but after all, it is her fault.

I think she's simmered down a bit.

Wish me luck,

Aviana

Two small knocks at my door.

"I think she left," Layla whispers.

I could hear the front door slam shut and I opened mine.

"She's gone," I said.

"What's she on about this time?" she asked jokingly. "Did some guy write an extra 0 on a ten dollar bill?"

Innocent yet not so innocent.

"Nope, she's just jealous that her boyfriend has moved on," I respond.

"He's moved on already?"

"They never really were in love. She bought him, he was like her slave now to only escape the chains."

She laughed. "You'd never talk that way about South before."

I said nothing.

She hit my head with the newspaper.

"Aviana!"

"It's only one date! He practically begged me, I was just being polite," I say sheepishly.

"Polite," Layla looked baffled. "Just don't get too polite."

"Where's your innocence?" I exclaimed. She should be happy for me.

The phone rang.

"I got it," Layla said, her rare disgusted tone showed as she picked up the phone.

I went in the bathroom and washed my face.

She's being ridiculous, she'll understand when she's older.

"It's for you," she said sternly.

She handed me the phone and stomped away.

"Hello?"

"Hey, this is Eugene."

"Eugene, what is it?" I asked impatiently.

"What? You sound kind of..."

"Yeah I know, now what is it?"

He cleared his throat. "If we're going to make this date thing work, it's going to have to be tomorrow."

"Um, and why's that?"

"Just some business to take care of, you know?" Eugene said quickly.

"Business? You've hardly got a job," I said without thinking.

"Tomorrow," he said and without and another word, he hung up.
