Silence.
Everyone was staring at him. Reece sat back in his chair trying desperately to pretend that he didn't care. Then he heard Marjorie's voice.
"Reece...I can't believe how you've just behaved." As his eyes met hers he knew he had no defence. He opened his mouth to speak but promptly closed it again when nothing came out.
"I'm going to see if Mia is ok. I can't even look at you right now." With that, Marjorie stormed off towards the toilets.
As she opened the door she could hear Charlottes soothing voice and somebody sobbing. For a moment she thought of turning back - it was obviously Mia crying, and although she no longer felt any hatred for the red head she wouldn't say they were friends either. They were still getting used to each other, slowly letting their respective guards down. She didn't want to make Mia feel uncomfortable, but she had to make sure she was ok - nobody deserved to be spoken to like that, especially after trying so hard to change.
"I'm so sorry Mia, that was completely uncalled for, I've got no idea what came over him."
As Mia turned to face her, she felt sick. Her former enemies mascara was streaming down her face, and for the first time since they met, Marjorie felt the inclination to hug the woman stood in front of her. It was just instinctual, she looked so upset. She didn't even consider the idea that Mia might reject her hug but thankfully, she didn't. As she wrapped her arms around Mia, she felt the slightly taller woman reciprocate. This contact brought on a fresh wave of sobbing and as Marjorie held Mia in her arms, she finally saw the person Charlotte had told her all about.
Charlotte watched, shocked as two people she cared for immensely embraced each other - two people she never thought would fully find harmony. She was so unbelievably angry at Reece, how dare he speak to Mia like that - and in front of everyone! She was frothing at the mouth to tear into the great huge lump. As Mia and Marjorie broke apart, she rubbed her girlfriend's arm, speaking gently.
"Will you be ok if I go and check on Carly? She looked terrified."
Mia looked Charlotte straight in the eyes and immediately replied "yes of course, make sure she's alright. She didn't deserve to see or hear any of that."
Charlotte shot a quick glance at Marjorie, to which her manager just nodded slightly. She would look after Mia while Charlotte was gone. With that she hurried out of the toilet in search of her young friend. Once she was gone, Mia locked eyes with Marjorie and quietly said:
"Reece really does have good taste in women." A tiny smile flashed across her face as she registered Marjorie's surprise. As upset as she was, she couldn't resist the familiar urge to cause a little mischief.
"Taste in women aside, I'm not too sure who Reece really is at the moment" Marjorie sighed.
As Mia watched Marjorie's face, she could see just how confused she was. Clearly Reece had never acted this way in front of her before, so this was new territory. She felt a pang of sympathy - what a can of worms they were about to open together.
