Donk sat on the couch, watching TV in the warm afternoon light filtering through the curtains. Heather, his patient adoptive mother, had just finished preparing a plate of steaming ravioli for him. She placed it on the coffee table with a gentle smile, knowing that Donk wasn't familiar with Earth food but was eager to try new things.
"thank you, heather," Donk said, his words slightly halting as he struggled with English. "today, school was fun. lumi, vex, zara, and me played games together."
Heather sat beside him, her expression encouraging. "That sounds wonderful, Donk. What kind of games did you play?"
"we played a game with balls and hoops. lumi was very good at it," Donk explained, his eyes lighting up with excitement as he recalled the game."That sounds like basketball," Heather said, nodding. "It's great that you're making friends and enjoying your time at school."
Donk nodded eagerly, taking a tentative bite of the ravioli. His eyes widened in surprise and delight as he tasted the savory filling. "this is yummy, heather! what is it called again?"
"It's called ravioli," Heather replied, her smile growing. "I'm glad you like it. If you want more, just let me know."As they continued to chat and watch TV together, Donk felt grateful for Heather's patience and support. He may still be learning English and getting used to Earth's customs, but with Heather by his side, everything felt a little easier and more enjoyable.
