Melissa was born and raised in a lab named DawnLabs. She didn't even have a name, instead she was labeled '0516', with the number digits tattooed onto her forearm. Melissa was raised by a scientist at the facility named Dr. Suzuki, the head scientist of the organization and Melissa's parents were neutralized for classified reasons.
As Melissa grew up, she realized that DawnLabs wasn't some child friendly facility where the children grow up to be happy and healthy adults so she caused a breach during lights out by spilling over dangerous chemicals in which in came in contact with wires, causing a massive fire. Many lives were lost but Melissa managed to escape, but so did Dr. Suzuki. Melissa was only 5 years old when she escaped and became homeless, hiding from DawnLabs as she didn't want to go back to that hellhole.
A week of stealing food to live, she encounters a man named Vihan Gonzales who is a retired Army soldier and is now a firefighter in the city. She tries to get his wallet to steal some money to get food but was caught and out of panic, she tries to run but ends up being cornered. She thought this was the end and was probably going to get thrown into some foster care or adoption center where she'll end up in some crazy or horrible household. Just as Vihan was about to grab her, his husband Grayson Boucher, who is a doctor at a children's hospital and also a scientist but works independently at home approaches him with donuts for each of them as they were both out on a date.
"Vihan! I got us some donuts!" Grayson says with a warm smile before looking at Melissa "oh, who's this?" He turns to her as she was hugging her knees in the corner. "Oh, she stole my wallet and tries running off with it! She probably still has it now and won't give it back!" Vihan huffs as he takes the donut. Grayson had a soft spot for kids, especially ones that are troubled or very vulnerable. He kneels on one knee in front of her, "hey, it's okay little one. We won't hurt you." He says with a gentle smile. He tears his donut in half and offers it to her, she stares at it before hesitantly going to take it. She looks up at him with confusion before he nods "you can eat it." He says. Afterwards she began to eat it.
Grayson looks at her out of concern "we have to get her to a hospital, she's covered in wounds, dirt and grime!" He says to Vihan. Vihan nods "alright, let's take her to the hospital." He says as he and Grayson who has Mel in his arms, walk and get in to their car and drives to the hospital where Mel is treated. A few days passed, Grayson and Vihan were discussing about having a child since Grayson wanted to have a family and so they decided to adopt Mel and after going through procedures and signing the adoption paperwork, Mel was officially their adopted daughter, even giving her a last name. It took Mel some time to adjust to her new life but soon enough she warmed up to her two new dads and even started to become comfortable talk as she was mute the first time they met. To this day Mel still has love for her fathers.
