Rylie had private - messaged both of Camelias friends last week. Stacy kates replied a few hours ago with a phone number, saying she didn't mind answering ' just a few' questions at eight o'clock tonight. When Rylie had" TO RELUCTANTLY MESSAGE
HYNJUIN" he'd texted back a whole page of shock - face and fist - bump emojis.
She glanced at the clock on her computer dashboard
And the glance became a stare. The clock stood stubbornly at 7:58 p.m.
' Oh,come on,'she said when, even after twenty mississippis, the eight in the :58 hadn't sprung into the leg of a nine.
When it did , an age later, Rylie said, ' Close enough,'
And pressed the record button on her app. She dialled
Stacy's number, her skin pickling with nerves. It picked up on the third ring.
'Hello?'said a high and sweet voice.
'Hi,Stacy, this is Reema Sharma here.'
'Oh yeah,hi. Hold on, let me just go up to my room.'
Rylie listened impatiently until she was back.
'Ok,she said.So you're researching about this case because of your mom?'
'mostly, yeah.A kind of case study.
'Ok,' Stacy said, sounding unsure.'I'm not shure how much help I can be with that.'
'Dont worry,I just have a few basic questions about the investigation as you remember it,'Rylie said.'So firstly, when did you find out she was missing?'
'Um...it was around one o'clock that night. Her parents rang both me and Mark chang ; we were Stacy's closest friends. I said how I hadn't seen her or heard from her and told them I would call around a bit.I tried John's number that night but he didn't pick up .'
'Did the police contact you at all?asked Rylie.
' Yeah, the next day. They came around asking questions.
'. And what did you tell them?'
Just the same as camelia's parents. That I had no idea where she was;she hadn't told me she was going anywhere. She was supposed to stay at home that day.
'did anything peculiar happen between john and camelia the night before or something like that?
' Well, only that they seemed to be bickering about something both Thursday and Friday.
' Did you happen to know what they were fighting about?'
No, but it seemed pretty unusual they never fight like never , so this was quite unexpected,
Rylie was taken aback.OK,' she said. 'So Rylie didn't have plans to see john on the Friday?'
' Like ,I said before she was at home that night, though she wanted to meet him.
Stacy sniffled, and Rylie thought she heard her cry.
Yeah so just one last question.
Acctualy I have something to tell you.I don't know if it will help but...
Even the smallest bits of information can be helpful.
Yeah so..umm she used to go for target practice' the one with the..guns.
Ohhh,Rylie said that was the only word that came to her mind.
And her parents didn't quite approve of that so she pretended to go for violin lessons...
Any particular reason for the gun obsession.not to be rude.
Well ,IDK she must've had some passion.or something and..uhh .I need to go and the call ended there.
