SHADI’S POV

I don’t even know who I am, what I am supposed to be. Puta, hindi ko na nga maalala kung bakit ako napadpad dito. It’s been an endless cycle of violence and bloodshed. It’s something that you get used to.

Darwin’s Law. Survival of the fittest.

The jungle was dark and overgrown, ibang-iba talaga pag binawi na ng kalikasan ang kanyang lupa. It’s the easiest way to get lost, too many travelers have tried to venture into these dark parts of the country but they never realize that so many people would be willing to take advantage of the meek.

There’s a syndicate running loose, maraming turistang nagmamagaling. They either get reported missing or they’re just left out in the open for the authorities to discover. Last week nga lang, meron na namang isang German national ang nadakip at pinaslang para sa kaniyang laman-loob. The going price for kidneys and other body parts are high, and these animals are more than willing to make a few tourists go missing.

Nasanay na ako sa ganitong pamumuhay, living by myself, taking care of myself and if ever push comes to shove, I’m more than willing to take the necessary actions. By no means am I a good person, I have lived for years in this chaos and I can take what this country can dish.

“Mukhang may nadali na naman…” bulong ko sa sarili ko, habang pinapakinggang ang biglaang ingay, mga native na ibon sa bansang ito nagliparan na tila naistorbo ang kanilang pahinga.

“Another dumb fuck tourist?”  I continued as I tried to listen to where the noise was coming from specifically, medyo malapit-lapit na kasi siya sa aking lugar. I prefer living quietly, it’s just that these idiots keep getting on my nerves.

A loud bang on my door disrupted my focus and I stared at it in seething rage, anong oras na, nag iingay pa.

“Miss Shadi!” sigaw nang boses na nasa kabila ng pintuan, “Your services are needed by the boss.”

A flash of irritation as my mouth falls into a frown, I am not bound to anyone, I am not someone’s lackey that I would be ordered around.

“Leave me the fuck alone.” Sagot ko, habang tinitignan ang lokasyon nung ingay kani-kanina lang.

“You made a deal with the group, if you don’t follow through then there’s going to be consequences, alam mo yun!”

“These people…” I muttered, getting up from my chair passing by the counter of my cozy little home amongst the trees. I grabbed the Sig Sauer P220 Legion on top of it, my own baby, we’ve been through a lot of shit together.  “Time for work.”
