Y/N's POV

"Maeve, you go ahead. I'll catch up with you in a sec." I told my friend as I walked over to Max. "I'm sorry about her." I said as I made my way over to the man. "No it's-" He paused for a moment letting out a soft laugh. "It's fine," He said, turning to face me. I watched as he grabbed his towel and wiped his face. "She's a pretty big fan." I told him. "You know-" He put down the towel. "I couldn't tell." He said smiling. "Well I better go." I said, really not wanting to. "Ok, sure. I'll see you this weekend?" He asked. "Wouldn't miss it for the world." I said. As I was reaching for the handle I stopped as Max began to talk again. "Maybe.... Maybe we could have dinner then?" His proposition made my heart skip a beat. "Maeve would be very jealous." I teased. "Tell her it is a very boring business meeting. I'm sure she will be fine." He suggested. "I do not know how you interact with your friends Max Verstappn, but I most certainly don't lie to mine." I was joking, but I think he thought I was serious as he suddenly looked apologetic. "I'm just kidding!" I said, trying not to stress him out. "Dinner sounds great." I told him. "Awesome. How's after the sprint race Saturday?" He asked. "I have no clue what that is, but it sounds perfect!" I said. "You really had no clue who I was." He said under his breath, like I wasn't supposed to hear it. I started walking towards the door again and stopped for the second time. "No I didn't, but I'm really glad I do now." I said.

I then met up with Maeve who was pressed against the door. "Were you spying on us?" I asked. "Are you going on a date with him?!" She countered. "No, we are not going on a date! We are just going out to dinner. Purely business." I said. "It doesn't sound like 'purely business' to me and I don't think it will to his girlfriend." She said. 'Fuck.' I thought. "It's just dinner Maeve." I wasn't really sure who I was trying to convince there.

I got home and realized just how much work I had ahead of me. Being a business owner had its perks, but it also meant having a shit ton of responsibility. I planned out the next week on my calendar and felt a bit of butterflies writing down my date- correction, my dinner with Max on Saturday. I decided to watch a couple of his races from this season to understand how this weekend was actually going to work. At around 1am I realized that I should probably go to bed when I saw my phone ping.

"Are you awake?" From some unknown number. I wasn't going to answer because now I was scared. Who the actual fuck got my number? About 5 minutes went by when I got another ping. "This is Max." My stomach dropped as if he just told me he was a stalker and was outside my house. "You freaked me out. I thought you were some creep 😭" I answered. As soon as I sent it I realized I probably shouldn't have said that. Before I could say anything else Max responded. "Sorry." Well that was anticlimactic. "Are you okay?" I texted. There had to be a reason he was texting me this late, or early. "Yeah." He wasn't very convincing. "Ok." I wasn't sure what else to say. "I'm sorry. I don't know why I texted you." His words gave me a mix of feelings. "That's ok. You can text me whenever you need." The conversation felt so passive. Like I was trying to lull a baby back to bed. "Thank you Y/N." Seeing him use my name gave me butterflies. "You're welcome Max." I put my phone aside. I was going to have to try harder if I was going to convince myself I didn't have romantic feelings for Max.

I went on instagram now wide awake from my recent interaction and decided the best thing was to stalk his girlfriend.

A post in January makes it look like he met the fam, so that's cool.

Nice a post of them on the beach having fun. I'm not upset, you are.

He drove her around in a gp car and she looked flawless even with helmet hair. Awesome.

Not the Easter post from the two of them. Just one big happy family.

Well I think after the Monaco slide show I'm officially done.

There is no way in hell I can compete with her and they seem very happy. 'What a good reality check Y/N!' I thought. Now I can go to bed. At least that's what I thought. However, I spent the next hour tossing and turning. 'You don't even know the guy' I kept trying to hammer into myself. Maybe that's what was so appealing about him.
