Inside Out: The Sitcom (Season 1)

helpful things to know

this is my absolute first attempt at a sitcom-based fanfic. i've been wanting to write something like this for a long time, and i'm glad that thanks to "Inside Out" and the coming sequel, i'll be able to make something like this! ironically, this all started while watching "i love lucy" and i was like "holy cow why are joy and lucy ricardo practically the same person?" (also anger and fred seem kinda similar. i could totally see anger giving off one-liners like fred did). so then very quickly this idea was born. hopefully you guys like it!

while working on these "episodes," i realized that there are some details that people may not understand entirely when reading. as such, there are some helpful things you'll want to know before diving into this:

- this "season" takes place between the movies. i like to say there's a two year gap between films, and this starts around the time of the first year during that gap. this does mean that the new emotions don't exist in riley's mind yet, but don't worry, they'll be coming in future seasons

- this is purely meant for comedy. i'm not trying to have angst and any that shows up is minor and resolved by the end

- this has a lot of inspiration from "i love lucy" episodes. most of these have either a minor reference to an episode or is mostly inspired by it, so i'll let you know which episode was used for inspiration (if applicable) so you can find potential references! descriptions will also be included (like if you're scrolling through a list of episodes on, say, netflix and see a small snippet of description)

- there's no explicit shipping, but starnerve and brickoli are implied relationships because i ship them. they do show up as part of some episode plots, so the basic thing to know is that while they're all single, i couldn't help myself. i ship them too much so they're slightly implied. originally i had it where the two couples were together, but that was detracting from the material i wanted to get together for this. so basically: they're single, but there's moments where it seems like brickoli and starnerve are a thing.

- i did make up some mind workers for the purposes of having side characters (so it's not just riley and the core 5). so many situations will involve someone being around at least once so that it's not always about just the five emotions. i love them but the side characters helped me come up with new ideas. 

- running gags are obviously going to exist, such as joy and anger making bets. that's the only running gag i'll reveal for now; most other long-term things and jokes are revealed over time through certain episodes. 

- obviously not everything happens in just the main room of headquarters. but i did come up with some things like how they have separate bedrooms and a kitchen/dining room where they collectively eat. these locations will either be used or referenced frequently so they're helpful to be aware of. for location purposes, the bedrooms are upstairs with the break room and i like to imagine the kitchen near where the idea bulbs are. it's like this hidden spot where they can see part of the main room (where the console is) but also have a bit of a private recluse from riley's everyday life. basically: headquarters in my mind (and for the purposes of this) is like one big house they all live in.
