Rebecca's P.O.V
Carefully Luke and I walked towards the door, which was ajar. For a moment I thought that we'd be locked in this room for days, without food or water. We had agreed on that we were allowed to pee in separate buckets with lids in a specific corner, so the smell wouldn't spread too much. That took us an hour to decide, I don't even want to know how we would handle a number two. Hopefully we won't need to bring it up soon either. And on top of that, was I starving since I hadn't been eating for almost a whole day.
I tried to suppress the hunger and instead I focused on not falling over on the different obstacles on the ground. It wasn't a problem for me, but it was for Luke. Very close to the open door he fell and he was just inches away from hitting his head on the door. But instead he once again hurt his right side. Once again was he in a lot of pain. I'm not sure whether that was bad or good luck, maybe a sign for us to not step out of the room.
Luke got up just like nothing had happened and just shrugged it off. I wanted to help him but he acted as if he was alright, but we both knew he wasn't. But I was fine with him not wanting me to share his pain; it eased things between us. I did the same with my pain. It was hard enough to handle your own pain.
Since Luke was focusing on his pain I decided to open the door. I did it carefully since remembered that it made a lot of sound when moved, since was so heavy. Even though I knew that the door was going to be heavy I got very surprised. It took the strength of both my arms to open it. I placed one hand on the door's handle, and the other hand on the side of the door. I was very careful when I opened so I wouldn't lose my grip and have my hand stuck in the door frame.
When I managed to get in position, it didn't take long to have a gap big enough for the both of us to be able to walk through. I decided that it would be enough with about two feet. It was better like that; I wasn't in a mood for wasting all of my energy on opening a ridiculously big door. Both of us were tired and had barely any energy left as it was.
I made sure that I had Luke right behind me in case something would happen. I didn't feel like losing him right now. Since it was so late had the sun gone down and it was barely any light in the room we were in. Same went with the hallway leading out. That meant that there probably weren't any light in this building at all. But we had managed to get used to the dark so it wasn't impossible for us to get around. But I think that it was because of the fear of the unpredictable behind the door that scared us and not the dark itself.
I grabbed the hand of the scared little boy, even though he's almost twice my size he seemed so tiny while being scared. He bit his lip and tried to calm himself. I squeezed his hand and got a squeeze back; we were both ready. I swirled out and while waiting on Luke to do the same I looked around. I tried to see if there were any obvious exits anywhere in reach, but I was out of luck.
In front of me I noticed an identical door to the one I just walked out through. But that one was closed. Concrete walls were surrounding the door. The roof and even the floor were made out of the same material. I assumed that we were under ground. That would explain why we only had light coming from above and not through normal windows. Either had he read my mind or just come to the same conclusion as me and said:
"I think we're in a basement of some sort." Luke stated.
"I think so too." I answered him.
I walked towards the left of the corridor. I don't really know why but it appealed to me more. It felt as we walked for ages, we passed more doors; I counted them to four, two on each side of the hallway, including the one we came from. But there was nothing else in the hallway besides that.
When we finally reached the end of the hallway I noticed a table. On the table was something metallic placed which reflected the little light in the room. I quickly realized that it was a silver tray. And it wasn't just one of them; the whole table was filled with silvers. I decided to lift one of the lids. I was very careful because all I could think about was scenes in movies where sensory detectors go off and the room blows up. But to my surprise was it just food underneath the lid.
The chicken which I just had uncovered was grilled and still slightly warm and seemed edible. Together Luke and I explored the different foods on the tables. Even though we were still getting used to the dark did we still need to touch a little bit of the food to determine what foods that actually were placed on the table in front of us. It smelled, looked and even felt like a full on Christmas dinner. We smelled the different casseroles, mashed potatoes and the vegetables. But the one thing Luke and I had our eyes on were the many bottles of water placed in a bucket full of ice.
We weren't sure whether or not it was worth the risk of eating any of the food. They had already locked us in some sort of basement for absolute reason that we know of. Why would they even give us food, and so much of it? It all looked so nice and elegant almost as if they had ordered it from a nice restaurant.
I noticed how Luke grabbed one of the bottles and looking at it. It was a Fiji bottle, and those aren't the cheapest may I ad. He analyzed it as if it was his only mission down here. It made me laugh, because for one second was he actually focusing on something and not shaking like a skeleton.
Carefully he placed his right hand on the lid and twisted it towards him. The only sound you could hear in the room at that moment, was the sound of a plastic cap coming of, just like it should of an unopened bottle. Luke raised the bottle at me and whispered "Cheers!" before he placed his lips on the opening and started to drink the transparent liquid.
