The bus stopped in front of the asylum with a forced stop that lunged the poor souls of the bus forward against the seats in front of us. My head took most of the impact leaving me dizzy and seeing red. The door opens with a metallic whine and the passengers exit one by one as I stay to regain my bearings. I slowly rise as the last one leaves descending the stairs. The driver mutters something as I descend the stairs, but I didn't catch it. I stop and turn my head to get a better look at him. He looked to be in his mid-twenties with a brown beard, matching trimmed hair and hazel eyes. He was well built, but was missing his left leg. I didn't notice till I was staring straight at his bionic leg. He motioned for me to leave, but I stood there with a blank stare. Would you mind repeating ? I asked. He coughed and said, another soul the asylum will destroy and kill. He smirked on the last part. I left without another word to him. The bus jolted alive and sped down the road with a puff of black smoke that strangled my lungs. The smoke passed and I saw the front of the asylum. Stone columns that screamed to be painted again with its flaking grey skin, stairs that have seen better days, a door with a busted out window that has been boarded more times than I can count. The whole place screamed mistreated and abandoned. I started up the broken down stairs slinging my bag over my shoulder. If the government saw this place it would probably be shut down, but that would mean one less place they can put the crazy people. I got ushered in by the staff for standing at the door too long and taken into a hall with many white locked doors. The hall seemed to get longer as time passed. Room 202 was at the end of the hall with no other patients around in neighboring rooms. I felt a surge of anxiety as the nurse opened the door of the room and lead me inside the white walled room. The room consisted of one white cot with white sheets, barred up window with a window seat, mirror, and a white dresser. The nurse laid a pair of white pants and matching shirt on the bed before she locked me in. The sound of the lock clicking echoed in the small room. I realized at that moment I was completely alone. I replaced my blue flowered dress and white stockings with the clothes the nurse instructed me to put on. I noticed the clothing seemed to swallow my boyish figure as I gazed into the full length mirror. Maybe if I could show them I was not crazy, maybe father would be convinced and would take me home. It was a long shot, but I was going to take it. The evening sky turned to night and left me laying in total darkness. Did I mention I am terrified of the dark? Well now you know.
