5-20-2024.

2:30 pm.

The curtains raise.

'Lights, camera, action,' Donatel announced.

8:30 pm.

Under the moon and stars. Out by a cornfield of Jill's home.

The wind swept along the fields of corn, and Jill was waiting for him, Oscar.

It was like Oscar to be late -

Jill looked up into the darkness, the moon shining bright, and the stars stars were in full display.

The winds were bearing a chill, wrapping her jacket up tight.

Jill looked around, meeting Oscar, their secret meetings.

'Jill,' her name being called out.

It was good to say that he made it after all.

'What happened? I didn't think you were going to make it?' Sounding concerned.

'Sorry, but I had to get you something, and I wanted you to have it before I had to leave you,' Oscar says, taking her hand.

'You know that you didn't have to get me something, I will be here waiting when you return. Whether that will five years or longer,' Jill smiled.

'We've grown up together, and I have these feelings for you, and I wanted to give you something. It's not much, Jill, but it's something,' Oscar stammered.

'What is it?' Jill asks.

'A stone, a red stone that found along the banks of a riverside, and I wanted to give it to you,' Oscar said, 'A stone by which you can always think of me. I know that you will miss me, and I you. I've never given you anything, but wildflowers that I've hand-picked for you.'

'I don't know what to say,' Jill being lost for words.

'You don't have to say anything, take the stone, please,' Oscar says, and he takes put the red stone and places it in her hand.

'It's beautiful. Did you polish it? It's the color of the big bright moon,' Jill looked at the stone. I love it. Thank you, Oscar,' and kiss him on the cheek.

'I won't be back til after your birthday. Call it an early birthday gift. Maybe, when I get back, I can find someone to set the stone in the ring for you. Will you be my girlfriend, Jillian Fontain?' Oscar asks.

'Oh, yes, when you get back. You say the nicest things. I can't believe that I'm Oscar Newton's girlfriend,' Jill holds the stone to heart.

'Jill, we are both young, but in my heart, you're the one for me. I've always known that one day that we'd be together. I know that you are only fifteen, but do you want to make it official?' Oscar asks.

'Are you saying what I am thinking that you're saying, a kiss?' Jill asks.

'Yes, a kiss from your lips!' Oscar almost yelled, 'Sorta like a guarantee, that you will wait for me to return.'

Jill holds the stone, then looks up at Oscar.

Jill wraps her arms around Oscar's neck, and she kisses him sweetly.

Oscar gives a big squeeze, 'You're the prettiest girl that I ever laid eyes upon.

'Oh, Oscar, I think you know me better than I do about myself. We've grown close over the years. Shared many times together, not counting the year that you seemed to pull my hair and call me Sally, the skeleton girl.'

'Let me say that you are no longer Sally, the 'Skeleton Girl'. I have my eye on you, Miss Fontain, Oscar noted.

'Oscar, you have my heart. I've never had a boyfriend. I think I like having you as my boyfriend,' Jill smiled up at him.

'I can't wait to tell everyone that I have a boyfriend, Oscar Newton!'

'Enough said, no barriers between us, now let's get you out of this wind, I am walking you to your doorstep,' Oscar beamed.

Oscar stands on Jill's porch, 'I will write you often, please write me back.'

'Don't worry, I will write to you often as soon as you let me know where you will be staying,' Jill said with enthusiasm.

The porch light comes on, 'Father is waiting, I must go inside, Oscar.'

'Jill Fontain, you have yourself a lovely night,' Oscar smiled.

'Oscar, you are the best person in the whole wide world,' and she let's go of his hand.

'Good night, Oscar Newton,'

'Goodnight.' Oscar says, and Jill walks inside, closing the door behind her.

'That's a wrap,' Donatel announced.

The curtain falls.
