8. Lisa

I woke up the next day extra early and with a smile on my face. it is the first day benny is officially my boyfriend. i think about him as i'm eating breakfast, brushing my teeth, picking our my outfit, etc.
for my outfit i chose a black and white plaid skirt with a white cut off sleeve turtle neck with a pair of go go boots and a white headband.

"valerie let's go we are gonna be late!" scotty says screaming through his room

"ok one second!"
i grab my lipstick and dab it on my lips and spray a nice floral smelling perfume my mom got from our local Avon seller.

"Valerie!!" scotty says again

"coming!" i dash out of my room and grab my back pack and me and scotty rush through the door.

"why are you so dressed up?" scotty says

"it's picture day i have to atleast look nice"

we run down our street to the bus stop and there is benny.

"woah, you look beautiful" benny says.
scotty and ham look at each-other and make a gagging face.

"are you two dating or something?" ham says.

"yeah" I say quickly leaving ham stunned, his eyes widened.

"actually?" ham and scotty both say

"yep"

soon the bus pulls around the side and before i knew i was walking into school holding Benny's hand.
all the girls look at me with jealousy. at my school every girl has a crush on benny. and i'm just some random new girl who nobody talks to so me walking into school with benny was a big surprise to everyone.

me and benny go to my locker and i put my stuff away. i look at myself in the mirror and reapply my lipstick a bit. i look over at benny and he is staring at something in the distance.

"you okay?" i say but he is still staring off in the distance.

"benny?" i say again

"oh sorry, yeah i'm fine. i got to go i'll see you in lunch alright?" he says pulling me in for a quick kiss then leaving.

i sit there for a minute confused on what just happened.

soon i see DeNunez and bertram in the hallway and i go up to them.

"hey guys. do you know what's wrong with benny?"

"i don't know Valerie he has been acting weird for us to today." DeNunez says

"yeah he been acting way different" Bertram follows up.

"okay well thanks i'll see you guys later at the sandlot"
i walk down the hallway up the stairs only to see the schools popular girl, Lisa, with benny.
Lisa was at her locker and benny was standing right next to her.
i was to far away to hear what they are saying but i can tell by lisa's eyes she was flirting with him.

anger and sadness took over my head. how could benny the sweetest guy i ever met, go off and talk to another girl.

I soon walk away to go find DeNunez and Bertram to tell them what happened.

"what's wrong with you Valerie?" Bertram says

"i just saw benny talking to lisa."

"what the hell?" DeNunez says

"that's messed up"

"i gotta go, i'll see you guys later"

I didn't even pay attention in any class, all i did was sit there and think about benny and what he did.
soon lunch came which i dreaded the whole day because i have to see benny.
this time i sat on the opposite side of the table with Timmy, tommy, and squints.
I didn't even bother looking at benny which he was only sitting a few feet away from me.

Benny was too scared to speak up but i heard him ask what was wrong with me.
finally lunch was over, then a few period later school was over, then picture day was over.

when i got off the bus i took scotty's hand and dragged him up the street as fast as i could.
"Valerie what are you doing aren't we going to the sandlot"

"you can but i'm staying home" i said

"seriously what is going on with you" scotty says

"i saw benny talking with lisa"

"oh, yikes"

i let go of scotty when we got to the drive way and as soon as i got into the house i ran to my room and shut the door without thinking of opening it ever again.
I quickly got out a comfy pair of sweatpants and a big t-shirt my parents got me on a family vacation which they accidentally got 3 sizes to big.
The only time i got out of my room was to use the bathroom and to get the tub of Neapolitan ice cream my mom got the day before, which i grabbed out of the freezer before my mom walked into the kitchen, then ran back into my room as fast as i can

'you know what why do i care so much about him, he's just a stupid boy who probably doesn't have any brain cells' i thought to myself. 10 minutes later I was sobbing to myself silently with mascara running down my face.

i was sitting in my room staring at the wall eating ice cream when i heard a knock at my door.

"not right now mom" i say thinking it was my mom
scotty opens the door a bit and says
"can i come in?"

"sure" i respond bluntly
scotty opens the door more and there is benny and the rest of the boys standing behind him.

i quickly standup out of my bed and get a tissue and wipe of my ruined mascara which was all over my face.

"what are you doing here"
benny walks into my room a little more.

"i came to apologize"

"how do you know the reason i'm mad at you?"

"Bertram and DeNunez told me"
i look over to the side at Bertram and DeNunez who are both standing in my doorway with the rest of the boys behind them and i give them a look.

"listen i just wanted to say i'm sorry for acting that way this morning and im sorry for talking to lisa's, the teacher put us together as lab partners and so i was talking to her about our project and then she started flirting with me and she asked me out which i said no because i have you"

"oh... im sorry for misinterpreting"

"I really like you val i would never do that to you"

"i like you to"

we both hug which is followed up by clapping from the boys behind us who are still in my doorway

"bravo!" ham says

"amazing performance!" squints says.

"hey is that the ice cream mom just got" scotty says pointing to the jar of ice cream on my bed.

"um no." i say scratching the back of my head
