One incident can change our lives

One incident can change our lives. Just a single incident and everything has changed. One moment I was excited for our child and the next I am comforting my wife for our child's loss. Stranger, right?

Something is wrong. I can tell that from her behaviour. Since we have returned from the hospital, she is lost in her own mind, thinking about God knows what. All my efforts have gone to vail. It's as if she has packed herself in her own bubble of thoughts and no matter what I do, nothing is working.

She isn't talking, she is not eating, god she is not evening reading. She is not on her phone. She is just lost. Lost in her own thoughts. Thinking god knows what.

Her spark is gone. The shine in her blonde, the eyes are not the forest green they were, they are pale. She looks pale, she feels pale. She isn't talking and I'm fucking worried.

We'll get over this. It'll be all okay.

"Baby, please talk to me," I tell her as I try to hug her but she stops me.

I take a deep breath calming myself down, and I speak through clenched teeth, "Grace I know we have lost our child, but that doesn't mean you can stop me from touching you."

"I don't want your filthy hands all over me," she says monotonously as she texts someone. I peep into her phone and I see Kai's number on it.

I had already called him to be there and he was probably on his way.

"My hands weren't filthy when you were riding my cock and begging for more,"

"Can you please leave me alone?" she says as I hear someone come.

Must be Kai.

I'm losing control. I understand that she is upset. She is grieving. She is more heartbroken than me but that doesn't mean I am not grieving. It's not only her who has lost a child. It was my child too.

I direct Kai to our room as I make my way to my office. I honestly don't want to interfere between both of them. He knows that she has faced a miscarriage and I feel that she needs her time with his brother.

I enter my office as I take a bottle of whiskey and a glass. I sit on the chair pouring myself some whiskey as I drink it in one go. Taking a deep breath, feeling the burn down my throat I rest my head against the chair. One moment I was about to be a father and now it's over. My child is dead.

The fun fact being my wife never recognised the child as ours. It always has been her child. She was pregnant with her child. She lost her child. I didn't lose anything, did I? She never fucking said that the child was ours.

But it's understandable, she is in shock and trauma. I pour myself another drink, followed by another and another until I see Jeremy stroll in my office.

I really need to change the password to my house.

"You are fucking drunk," he utters as he takes away the empty bottle from my desk.

"I'm not drunk," I mumble.

"Yeah sure,"

"Why the fuck are you here?" I ask him, my irritation evident. I don't need anyone here. I am better by myself and of course my wife.

"Remember when you had told me to look into Grace's past. We missed something," he tells me.

"What?"

"The same night your parents had died, a party was organised at her house, hosted by her father along with the Irish don, Aoife Lynch," he tells me taping two fingers against his thigh.

"We both know her father had relations with the Irish," I tell him, being oblivious to what he says.

"Yes and that was the night her mother died,"

"What? What are you trying to say? The Irish killed her mom?" I asked him. There's no fucking way that this would had happened. They both had successfully killed my family, of course they had a reason to party and moreover her mother was ill.

"No well yes. There's something we didn't know about that night. Her house was on fire right after your parents were murdered. Her mother had not died because of some illness. The reports were fake,"

What the fuck?

"And you are realising that right now?" I ask him, anger and frustration bubbling my veins.

"Yes well I had randomly initiated a conversation with Kai about his mother who told me that her mother was never ill and she had died due to the fire. He was lying about how his mother died but the illness thing was true," he says.

"So some information is still missing. We are still missing something," I tell him to which he nods as he takes my laptop and types in something.

"What are you doing?" I ask him.

"Her house had cctv's but the footage is totally destroyed," he tells me as he continues typing in some codes. Coding and hacking has always been his thing, while fighting and planning strategies has been mine.

"Here, see this," he says, turning the laptop towards me. It's a blur footage where nothing is visible, only the audio can be heard properly, which also only compromises screams and gunshots. Grace's scream was accompanied by some women, probably her mother.

Why the fuck was she screaming? What happened that night?

"The footage is destroyed," I pointed out as I tried to keep my calm. We are missing something really important. A very important piece of information.

"Yes it is and it can be recovered according to my knowledge," he tells me as he takes the screen away.

"Then what the fuck are you waiting for? Recover it," I tell him.

"You know, Kai is here right now. We can talk to him," Jeremy suggested as he continued frying his brain on the screen.

"No," I told him as I continued, "I don't want to provoke Grace. She is not okay right now and the last thing I want right now is to offend her. Kai will obviously tell her if we talk to him about anything."

"Point to be noted. How is she doing?"

"Not okay. Barely surviving," I utter, closing my eyes and resting my head on the chair.

"Give her some time. She is strong," he told me as I nodded.
