A few days had already gone by since I lashed out, I got grounded. How am I gonna get grounded at the end of the world!? What is my daddy forbidding me from, collecting those "infected people" to help him put in the barn!? Besides that, it has been okay with those people stayin' here. That little boy, he's been hangin out with me, sometimes Beth comes and hangs out with us.

It's kind of nice havin' a kid that's not my sister around here that's close to our age, I get tired of Beth sometimes. But I showed that boy how to play rummy, and other card games my momma used to play with us. Me and Carl, which was that boy, were currently sitting in the living room playing with the cards.

"I'm out!" I yelled, laying down my last card. He looked defeated, but he was hoping he still had a good hand, I could tell in his eyes.
"Will you help me count my points again?" He said, looking up at me. I've taught him this a million times, but I just grabbed his cards and counted them wordlessly.

"You got negative 55, Carl!" I laughed out, laying the cards down and sliding them towards him so he would shuffle, soon after counting my own points. I heard some commotion outside, so I stood up.
"Stay in here, alright?" I looked at him before running out on the porch. He didn't listen, and he followed. I wasn't gonna yell at him or anything, but it kind of frustrated me.

I felt him standing behind me, and i stepped back a little and put my arm around his shoulder as we watched the grown men grabbing guns. I saw the weird looking man, that I hit with the rock. I don't remember his name, I didn't really care too anyways. I heard him say something about the prisoner we had in our barn after he opened them and let those "infected people" out.

The prisoner has "escaped" which was weird, because I saw that man going into the barn when me and Carl were collecting fire wood near the edge of the woods. I didn't think too much about it, because Maggie told me and Carl to go on back inside and upstairs.

"What, why!? I should get to know, why can Beth stay down here but I can't!?" I yelled out, my daddy gave me a dirty look as I yelled at Maggie.
"Because you're younger than her." Maggie said as she pushed me and Carl inside. I was pissed, but I didn't say anything. I grabbed our cards off of the table and ran upstairs after Carl.

A few hours had passed, and none of the people had come back. I was real worried, Carl's daddy had went out, the weird man, Maggie's boyfriend or something, and I think Daryl was his name. Carl looked worried to, but more worried than me. I needed to use the bathroom, so I told Carl I would be right back.

I was in the bathroom for like 5 minutes, it wasn't real long at all. I walked back into my room, and I didn't see Carl. I looked everywhere for him, then I ran downstairs. Looking for him down there, he wasn't anywhere to be found. I ran to the adults, they had been sitting on the porch.

"I lost Carl!" I yelled.
