Jason's POV

"Because your eyes are pretty."

Was I a bit bold? Maybe. But I think he liked that, because right now he's blushing like crazy, and he can't even look at me. I have a way with people, hehe.

Though I'm a bit upset he won't look at me, because it's hard to look at his eyes when he's not looking at me. I might just pull a huge stunt and get him to look at me. Yeah, that's what I'm gonna do.

I reached over and pulled his chin with my finger, so he'd look at me.

"It's hard for me to see your eyes when you won't like at me, Ethan." I said to him with my signature smirk. It works on everybody.

But I guess not him, because he slapped me and left the classroom. Which is just a little embarrassing, considering the fact some people behind us saw everything.

Was I not smirking enough? Why would somebody not want me to hit on them?

I don't know why, but him slapping me and being hard to get just makes me want him all the more. I'm gonna make sure he falls for me, because everybody falls for me. I can't just have somebody not like me, that's lame.

He comes back later, and I smirk at him again. He looks away again, doing everything he can to keep his eyes off me. So he's just playing hard to get? I'll win him over by the end of this month, just wait.

"Alright class. I know it's the first day and you don't want to work, so I'll give us something easy! Everybody partner up, we're going to do an algebra escape room!" Mrs. Foster instructed to the class.

Others groaned, but started pairing up with their friends anyways. I had one goal in mind, partner up with Ethan.

"Ethan! You're with me!" I came rushing ove to him, before anybody else could. He actually looked at me for once, without blushing.

"Do I have to?"

"Cmon! If you don't, you might get paired with Andy!" I pointed to the guy in the back of the class, the one holding a rubix cube and snot dripping down his nose. He's a bit odd, but he's definitely smart for sure.

Ethan looked at him, and he covered his mouth. He was probably trying not to say something rude or offensive, so he turned back to me.

"Fine. But can you not stare at me the whole time? It's weird." Ethan said, finally uncovering his mouth.

Yes! I got Ethan to partner with me for the algebra escape room. This is the perfect opportunity to really get to know him and have him start falling for my charms.

"Don't worry pretty eyes, I'll try my best," I say with a wink. He rolls those gorgeous blue eyes at me, but I can see the hints of a smile playing at the corners of his mouth. He's definitely into me, even if he won't admit it yet.

Mrs. Foster started handing out the escape room packets and locks. Our goal was to solve the algebra problems correctly to get the codes to unlock the different locks and "escape" the fictional room.

"I'll let you handle the math problems," I tell Ethan. "I'm more of a...hands-on learner when it comes to unlocking things, if you know what I mean." I give him an exaggerated eyebrow wiggle, unable to resist flirting a little more.

Ethan scoffs but gets to work on the first problem without responding to my suggestive comment. As he's scribbling away in the packet, I take the opportunity to shamelessly check him out. The way his brow furrows in concentration is insanely cute. And those arms...I bet he works out. I'm hit with the sudden urge to reach out and feel his bicep.

Before I can make a move, Ethan looks up at me. "Did you get the answer or were you too busy eye-fucking me to pay attention?"

Shit, he caught me staring again. I put on an innocent look. "Oh I was paying attention alright...to every glorious inch of you."

Ethan looks flustered for a second before recovering his scowl. "Just try this lock with 24601," he mutters, handing me the first locked box.

I take it and within a few seconds I've got it open. "Nice work, pretty eyes!"

We continue working through the problems and unlocking the boxes, me doing my best to tone down the flirting so Ethan doesn't get too annoyed. But I can't resist sending him a wink or brushing my hand against his every so often.

Towards the end, we only have one lock left. Ethan is starting on the final algebra problem when his phone buzzes. He glances at it and I see his whole body tense up.

"Everything okay?" I ask nonchalantly, trying not to pry too much.

Ethan shakes his head, putting his phone back down firmly. "It's just...my ex. Being a dick as usual."

My interest is piqued. "Oh yeah? What's his deal?"

Ethan lets out a humorless laugh. "Well, let's see. He cheated on me for like a year with the cheer captain. And now, a month after I finally found out and broke up with his lying ass, he wants me back." He looks up at me and I'm struck by the hurt in his eyes. "How messed up is that?"

My stomach clenches a little at the thought of someone cheating on this amazing guy in front of me. Ethan deserves so much better. Like...me, for instance.

"That's rough man, I'm sorry," I say, putting a hand on his shoulder. "What a fucking idiot though. If I had someone like you, I'd never let you go."

Ethan's eyes widen at my words, but before he can respond, his phone buzzes again. He glances down and his face falls.

Marcus Long
You can't hide forever, baby.
You think I wouldn't find out you moved to Westbrook? Our rival school?
Come outside, we can talk about this.
Cmon baby, you know you still love me.

Another cliffhanger 😛
I'm getting the hang of writing so far, I think. How's the chapter?
Marcus making a possible comeback? Or will Ethan stay true to his word?
Find out in the next chapter. :)
