Amaris POV

After the Lake Incident

I literally only had time to tuck my poor little sniffling Devi into her bed, when I heard pounding on my door. I turned on her little bedside music box I used to help her sleep. Easing her door together, I sprinted to the suite door and jerked it open.

"Shhhhh!" I hissed. "Devi is upset and she just fell asleep." I was vibrating with anger.

"What was that back there?" He gritted out quietly. "You left me alone."

"I left you with Jeni." I mocked. "You and she were doing fine."

"I demand an answer!" He growled low.

Rolling my eyes, I scoffed with a sarcastic laugh. "Get a clue, Devon! For any future relationships you may want to cultivate, you need to keep something in mind..."

"Future relationships? What are you insinuating?" He fumed as he leaned down, our noses nearly touching.

Unfazed, I stared up at him. "I'm not insinuating anything. Just giving a little advice." I sneered, "By the looks of things, this relationship is not going to pull through." My wolf came to the forefront with a snarl. She was getting tired of the disrespect too.

Devon's face paled, his eyes widened, as he stood up.

"Listen very closely." I whispered. In order for a relationship to survive, it is imperative to always stand up for your wife, not the f-ing whore who's trying to take you away from your family. In plain English, put me first."

"I-I didn't mean for you to feel like you don't come first." He stuttered. "Jeni is my childhood friend. She will always be in my life."

"What if I said you had to choose between me and Jeni?" I demanded. "What if I said you were already making a choice between us? Do you understand that?"

"Choose?" He looked confused. "She is my childhood friend. You are my mate. Why can't I have both of you in my life?" He shook his head, Grabbing a handful of his hair, he pulled. "She said you were trying to push her out of my life." He whispered as if to himself.

Scoffing again. "You need to examine your interactions carefully, Devon. I won't give you any further warnings. I don't really want to be here. Honestly, I didn't come here to give you and I a chance." I pointed between us. "I did, however, come here with an open mind. But the only thing my being here has done, is given you a metaphorical shovel. And you and Jeni are just digging your hole." I got up in his face, raging. "Wise up! You are not doing yourself any favors, when you take her side!"  I couldn't be any more clear.

I pointed to the door, angrily. Dejectedly, he left. I don't think he even knows how to fight for us. I certainly am not going to teach him.

Devon POV

Leaving Amaris's room, I am at a loss.  Jeni is my childhood friend. Amaris is my mate. I don't understand the controversy. Why can't they just get along. I don't want to choose between them. I need to talk to someone.
