Author's POV
Mihir opened his eyes to the soft light of the morning sun filtering through the curtains. He turned to see Jeevika still sleeping beside him, her face peaceful and relaxed. For a moment, he just watched her, feeling a sense of contentment he hadn't felt before. Slowly, he got up, careful not to wake her.
But Jeevika stirred and blinked her eyes open. She gave him a sleepy smile. "Good morning," she said, her voice still groggy.
"Good morning," Mihir replied, smiling back. He leaned down to kiss her forehead.
Jeevika suddenly sat up, her expression turning serious. "Mihir, I need to ask you something."
"Sure, what is it?" Mihir asked, a bit concerned by her tone.
"Do you have any STDs?" she asked bluntly, searching his eyes for honesty.
Mihir was taken aback but appreciated her directness. "No, Jeevika, I don't. I promise. I'm clean. I got tested a few months ago."
She let out a sigh of relief. "Okay, good. I just wanted to be sure."
"I understand," Mihir said, sitting up beside her. "It's important to be safe."
Jeevika nodded and then glanced around the room. "Can you pass me my purse? I need to take a contraceptive pill."
Mihir found her purse on the nightstand and handed it to her. "Here you go."
As Jeevika rummaged through her purse, she looked up and smiled. "You know, we should probably be more careful next time."
Mihir chuckled. "Yeah, I agree. Last night was... a bit spontaneous."
Jeevika laughed too. "Spontaneous is an understatement. But it was worth it."
"Definitely," Mihir said, grinning.
Jeevika found the pill and swallowed it with a glass of water that Mihir handed her. She leaned back against the headboard and sighed. "Okay, I feel better now."
Mihir moved closer and wrapped an arm around her shoulders. "I'm glad. I want you to feel safe with me, Jeevika."
She smiled, resting her head on his shoulder. "I do, Mihir. I really do."
They sat in comfortable silence for a moment before Mihir spoke again. "You know, I was thinking of making us breakfast. How do you like your eggs?"
"Scrambled," she said, her smile widening. "And maybe some toast?"
"Scrambled eggs and toast coming right up," Mihir said, giving her a quick kiss before getting out of bed.
As he headed to the kitchen, Jeevika called out, "And don't burn the toast!"
Mihir laughed. "No promises!"
Jeevika watched him go, feeling a warm, happy glow inside. She appreciated how he handled her questions and concerns. It made her feel even more secure and loved.
Mihir returned a few minutes later, holding a tray with scrambled eggs, toast, and two cups of coffee. "Breakfast is served," he announced, placing the tray on the bed between them.
"Wow, this looks great," Jeevika said, impressed.
They ate breakfast together, sharing light conversation and laughter. It felt good, like they were already a team.
"Mihir, you know what?" Jeevika said between bites of toast. "I think we're going to be just fine."
Mihir reached out and took her hand. "I think so too, Jeevika. I think so too."
