"So do you accept my offer or not, treasure?" I question in a daunting tone.
I force myself to meet her eyes and immediately regret it when I do, because when I look into them, all I can see is the memory of her smiling at me that night under the moon. Her beautiful, beautiful smile.
I need to remind myself that I'm making her my enemy, and that I'm choosing to do so.
I snap out of my thoughts when she replies, "I'm not quite sure how you know who I am or how you know of my powers or weakness, but I know that I ought to run away from a stranger like you this instant. Despite this, I may consider your offer."
My heart pangs at the word stranger, but I don't let it show. I raise my eyebrows as I taunt, "It would be wise to hurry on and accept. If you don't we both know you will die when you use—"
I can't bring myself to finish my sentence when I see the fear on her face. Instead I only grin, and she looks at me with horror.
I expect her to decline the offer after what I've just done, but she confidently looks up at me and says, "I accept." My grin widens and transforms into a smile. A genuine smile.
I know she's scared. She's scared of me. And that's exactly what I want.
But I also want to just pull her into my arms and hug her tight.
"Before you think about doing anything else," she says. "I want you to explain everything to me. God's teeth, I've asked you how you know my secrets about a hundred times already!"
I laugh as I respond softly, "Okay, okay. I'll tell you if you let me take you somewhere."
Her eyes widen, clearly not expecting my response, as she eyes me suspiciously.
"Don't worry, treasure. I'm not going to steal you away and lock you up," I say as I try to give her a kind look. The opposite of what I've done up until now.
"Okay."
"Okay."
And then she finally smiles her beautiful smile.
