"Good morning, sweetie! How are you? Did you sleep well?" My mom asks the following day, the moment I walk into the kitchen of my house.

"Hi, mum! I'm good, and I slept like a baby. How are you?" I tell her in a cheerful way, and I almost believe the lie exiting my mouth. Truth is, after touching myself, I tried to drift off to sleep but I couldn't stop tossing and turning at the thought of seeing Bailey today.

"I'm fine! I'm sorry for yesterday, I really had to check on Amber. She's so heartbroken! She wants to divorce her husband." She explains calmly, studying me. Then, I make my way over to our kitchen table, joining my mum who's sipping on her coffee.

"It's okay... I hope she will feel better soon! She deserves so much better!" I respond as a stray yawn flies from my lips.

"You're right! He didn't even deserve her. Are you going out today?" My mom replies softly before standing to her feet and walking toward our fridge.

"Actually, I need to leave in a few minutes. I'm going to Bailey's place to work on the assignment!" I deadpan after clearing my throat, as my mum yanks open the fridge door and pulls out the orange juice.

"Oh, you both seem to be getting along ! It reminds me of Harper, and I." My mom comments, stealing my entire attention at the mention of Bailey's mum. However, I don't miss the way her smiles drops.

"What happened between you two? I mean, you used to be friends back in high school...She also seems to be a good person." I answer immediately, the words are out of my mouth before I can stop them.

"You're right, she isn't a bad person and we used to be really close. I kinda miss her sometimes...but I don't think she wants to see me now." My mom lowers her voice to a whisper as a look of sadness crosses her eyes.

"Why wouldn't she want to see you? Did you hurt her or something?" I reply as she twists the cap off the orange juice and purs it into her cup.

"We kinda had a fight about something, something really stupid by the way. Then, I met your father, and she met Hawke so all we went separate ways." My mom explains, and I try to register all the information inside my head.

"I see..." I state, my voice barely above a whisper.

"Anyway, as much as I'd like to tell you everything about Harper and I, this conversation is going to have to wait, I need to go. Grandma needs to buy a few things so I'm going with her...Do you want me to give you a ride?" My mother whisper-bells as she collects her car keys off the kitchen table. Seconds later, she steps up to me and leans down to peck me on my head.

"No need! I'm taking the bus! See you later! I will probably be home late..." I bellow as the corners of my lips tip up into a genuine smile.
