Vi's POV

A cold breeze was floating through the night air. Even though it was summer, the temperatures were freezing. Luckily, the storm from earlier had passed by them without coming down. Fortunately, because the slums wouldn't have stood a chance against heavy wind gusts.

Her, Zeri and Blitzcrank were hiding behind a big trash bin, waiting for the right moment to enter Piltover. The bridges had closed hours ago but since they used hoverboards, that was not a problem.

It was a routine they did every time they stole supplies. They'd walked to the north-east side of Zaun, where a small passageway was leading to Piltover - the only spot between the cities that wasn't divided by the river.

Of course, this place was guarded, too. But every night at midnight, there was a shift change and the way was free for a few minutes. The firelights always operated at this time.

For the way back they mostly just flew across Piltover and tried not to get shot. The enforcers were aware of the firelight's thefts, yet, they hadn't been able to catch them.

"He's leaving!", Zeri whispered excitedly. Small yellow sparks were surrounding her, as always when she was looking forward to something. Vi honestly didn't know where she got all the motivation from.

The enforcer that had sat in a small cabin had, in fact, stood up and was now making his way upwards the alley. Now was their chance.

Quietly, the three of them followed the enforcer, carefully using the shadows of the alley as a cover. The way ended in a crossroad, where they could easily evade unseen.

A few meters before they reached that point, Blitzcrank accidentally stepped on a branch which was lying around. Vi reacted the fastest and pulled both Zeri and Blitzcrank against the wall of the nearest house, squeezing themselves as flat as possible.

Just in time, because not even five seconds later, the enforcer whirled around, his gun drawn. Vi held her breath, hoping the man wouldn't recognize Blitzcrank's glowing eyes or her or Zeri's bright hair colors. None of them moved an inch, waiting.

The enforcer seemed unsure what to do. He still pointed his gun in their direction but didn't move forward. "Come out, hiding is pointless!", he yelled, the fear in his voice betraying him.

Vi noticed that the guy was very young, as if he'd just started working with the Piltovan police. He surely was scared of the Zaunite image that his society had driven into his head.

Somehow, he reminded her of Caitlyn, who also was one of the youngest enforcers in the city and had initially thought that all Zaunites were bad.

Before the thoughts of her could consume her again, Vi desperately forced herself to focus on what was important - their supply mission and right now, the enforcer.

He stood there for another minute or so, then shook his head in disbelief and continued to walk up the alley, murmuring something like "Those damn night shifts'll make me completely paranoid..."

As soon as he was out of sight, Vi exhaled, relieved, and took a deep breath. Zeri and Blitzcrank had similar expressions on their faces.

"Yikes, that was close", Zeri commented. Vi walked past her without saying something, pulling up her hood. They couldn't afford wasting time.

They made their way to the crossroad and bailed into the nearest alley. Here, in the remote part of Piltover, it was completely dark, no neighborhood, no street lights, only old factories. It was the former industrial district of the city.
