A red van drove through the small town in the Hudson River Valley. It's driver was a young man with (h/c) hair and (e/c) eyes. He wore jeans and a flannel jacket over a grey shirt. A satchel hung across his body. The girl sitting next to him had long red hair and deep blue eyes. She wore a red long sleeved shirt with black pants. Around her neck she wore a camera that hung low on her chest.
The two drove through the town, taking in the scenery. The woman brought out her camera and took pictures of the autumn leaves as they drove by. She got a few good shots with orange leaves and the old, colonial buildings in the background. She looked down at the pictures to make sure they were good. The man looked over and grinned at her.
Y/N: More for your travel blog?
Sarah: Yeah. It's quite beautiful here during the fall. I could see this as a nice place to retire.
Y/N: It sure would be. Although, I don't think I could get past the constant smell of pigs.
He scrunched up his nose as they passed by a farm and acted like he was disgusted more than he actually was. Sarah giggled at his antics. He stopped and smiled at her. After a few moments, Sarah continued the conversation.
Sarah: Are you sure this place has it?
Y/N: If the stories I've heard are true, yes.
Sarah: I've heard that one before.
Y/N: Come on. Have I ever steered you wrong before?
Sarah: Yes. Both literally and figuratively.
Y/N: I'm sorry about Orlando. How was I supposed to know the battery would do that?
Y/N L/N and Sarah Anderson had been best friends since middle school. They stuck together and supported each other's decisions, even finding some common interests. While Y/N was fairly normal, most people found his interests to be a bit odd. He was constantly reading up on and wanted to study the paranormal. He believed that ghosts really existed and he wanted to prove it. He also believed in things such as spells, curses, magic, demons, and voodoo. Because of this, most people found him to be a bit odd. Except for Sarah.
Sarah had actually taken an interest in Y/N's passion. She loved hearing him tell stories about what he'd heard and what could be out there, even if she didn't fully believe half of it. Because of this, the two shared a mutual bond that eventually led to a long lasting friendship.
After her first year of college, Sarah decided what she was doing wasn't for her. Hearing Y/N's plans to expose the supernatural, she hopped aboard and decided to join him. For the past year and a half, the two have been travelling across the country trying to locate and track down the most haunted places.
Despite multiple stays and multiple locations, the two had yet to find any actual proof. Sarah had taken up travel blogging on the side, exploring her true passion of photography. While things looked down sometimes, she never got mad at Y/N or at least never showed that she did. In response, Y/N kept her company and told a few jokes that were bad and a few that were decent. Regardless, Sarah found herself laughing harder than any other time in her life.
Now the two were driving through a small town in New York on their way to their next investigation. They'd heard rumors about an old manor that is said to house a plethora of ghosts and spiritual entities. They had their hopes up that this could be the one to make them big. At the same time, they were overly cautious. They'd been tricked before only to find out the owner of some place was pulling a prank on them or making up stuff to garner attention.
The red van pulled up to a local bar in the town. The two hopped out and headed inside. A smoky gaze hovered over the room as they entered. Some modern country song could be heard playing over the radio. The bar wasn't that crowded, but they could tell that nearly everyone there was a local. The two were immediately pointed out as outsiders and tourists.
