John looked at the small freezer, distraught. It was completely empty, aside from a few racks which were used to hold frozen treats. He raced over to the counter, where a tall blonde boy wearing Aviator shades, reading a music magazine.
"DAVE, WHERE ARE ALL THE COOKIE CASEYS?!?!!??"
"They're discontinued," The older boy muttered, not looking up from his magazine. "No one was buying them anymore, so they stopped making them."
"I was buying them!! They're my favorite!!!" John complained, unwilling to accept the fate of Cookie Casey.
"It's not like there was any competition with Vanilla Viceroys."
John glared at the bigger freezer, which was filled to the brim with the rival ice cream sandwich brand. "Not Vanilla Viceroys! They taste weird and don't even look like salamanders!" Crossing his arms angrily, he walked over to the display case filled with donuts. He let out a long, depressed sigh. This whole situation was a lot for the 11-year-old to handle.
Dave sighed, put down his magazine, leaned on his elbows over the counter and looked into John's sad blue eyes.
"If it makes you feel any better, John, you can take the Cookie Casey freezer with you."
John's face suddenly glowed with happiness and he went starry-eyed.
"You really mean it, Dave?"
"Sure thing, bro. It's not like we need it anymore," Dave muttered as he unplugged the machine and handed it to the younger boy, who took it and hugged it sadly for a minute.
One he had finished, John put down the freezer and wrapped his arms around Dave's long legs. "Thank you SOOOO much, Dave!!"
The older boy awkwardly patted John's hair. "No prob."
John pulled away, grabbed his new freezer, and started for the door. He barely got two feet away before he remembered something important. "Oh yeah!" He gently put his freezer on the ground before spinning around and running back to the counter.
"Dave, I need some donuts," he said quickly, throwing down a few dollars.
Dave chuckled warmly as he asked, "I'm assuming you want your usual?"
John nodded seriously. Donuts were very important.
Dave smiled, grabbing a white bag which read "The Big Donut" on it, and putting four donuts inside; a jelly-filled pink-frosted one, a chocolate orange-frosted one, a green-frosted vanilla one, and a lemon meringue blue-frosted one with little star sprinkles all over it.
John happily grabbed the bag and ran off, scooping up his freezer and yelling "THANKS DAAAAAAAAAVE!!!" as he ran out of the store, leaving Dave laughing quietly.
He carried the mini freezer all the way home, stuffing the donuts inside so they wouldn't get ruined. It wasn't long before his moderately sized beach house came into view.
He ran up the steps and threw open the large door.
"Guys, I'm hom- GAHHH!!"
A black creature, about his size, jumped on him and began clawing at the boy's face. It was strong, but John managed to push the thing up, leaving it struggling above him.
Out of nowhere, a gauntleted fist punched the creature off John and into a wall, where it dissipated into a cloud of smoke. The fist belonged to a young woman with pink skin, short pink hair, a white shirt, a black tank top under said shirt, black miniskirt, pink leggings, and a grinning face. "Hey, John," she greeted, punching another creature out of the way.
