Where It Starts

I walk back into my room, the room where Daemon and I occupied ourselves. Spinning around in a circle, my eyes land on the MacBook Air laptop with that cherry red sleeve. Why did he leave without saying goodbye? Why did he disconnect his phone? My eyes land on the prom dress, the red prom dress. Daemon loves the color red and anything else with it. I let my hands drift to my building stomach, hoping that my mom comes home soon, I don't want to be late for my appointment. I always come into my room and stare at everything Daemon related and I don't even know why. I have a problem and its that I torture myself. I look at every item that Daemon has been apart of and long to know why to every single choice we have made.

"Katy?" Mom shouts from the doorway, "Let's get going!" I hobble down the stairs to the front door and into the car. On the way to the hospital for another check up, my mom asks, "Have you decided on a name yet?" I stare through the window as I remember the names.

"Adam, if the baby is a boy, and Aaliyah for a girl." I respond.

"Unusual name for a girl, but sounds pretty," Mom tells me. We sit in silence for a while, mainly because my mom and I have a troubled relationship since Daemon left and when I told her I was pregnant. I can understand my mom's anger, but I wish she would put her feelings aside. Though, I can't always get what I want. "Have you thought anything about college?" she asks.

I shake my head, "I was thinking about University of Colorado, but..."

"Why would you want to go to Colorado? You could go to other colleges that are well known."

"I already applied and got in on a scholarship, but I might not be going until the baby is older." She nod her head in understanding.

"You're being very mature about this, responsible," and that was the end of our conversation for 10 minutes. She pulled up into a parking spot and helped me out of the car. One arm around my mom and the other on my stomach, she helps me into the hospital towards Dr. Reynolds office. I sit down in the waiting room, my mom checks us in. "Are you really going to wait to find out the sex of the baby? We can start getting clothes and preparing a nursery and all that once we know the sex." My mom has been pushing me to know the sex because she doesn't like not knowing.

   "Okay, I'll ask." I respond.

As soon as I close my eyes, I hear someone call out, "Katy Swartz." I stand up as Dr. Reynolds comes out and sits me in a wheelchair. I should have given birth already at the rate this baby is growing. She wheels me into the room, helps me change into the gown and hop on to the chair.

"Alright, let's have a look," Dr. Reynolds says as she squirts the cold gel on to my stomach. I watch the monitor as she moves the scope over my stomach, coating it with the gel. "Well, you're 7 months along and you're carrying twins." My mouth opens wide in shock as I remember the note that Daemon sent me - that bomb. "Do you want to know the sex?" I nod my head in response as she points to certain areas of the screen. "This one is a boy, but the other one is a girl."

"I'm having a boy and a girl." I whisper. Dr. Reynolds smiles at me as she lectures about maintaining my health for the remainder of the pregnancy.

"I suggest to keep your stress level to a minimum and be wary of contractions and Braxton Hicks Contractions. They are quite similar, but..." I drown out of her lecture as I think about how the babies will grow up to look like. Will they look like me or Daemon? Maybe Dee? "You're all set and if something happens or if you have a question, just call me." Dr. Reynolds gives my mom a card and helps me back into the wheelchair and into the car.

"Two more months Katy. Two more months."

About 2 Months Later

I wake up to the bed feeling wet. I yank the covers off of me to see a wet spot on my bed. "MOM!" I shout. "I think my water broke." She comes thru the door and examines me.

"Let's get you to the hospital." She helps me out the door, into the car and speeds towards the hospital. As soon as mom grabs medical attention, I'm rushed into a delivery room and was told to start pushing. After the pain, I hear my baby boy and baby girl cry; my mom holding the boy as I cradle the girl. This is worth it.
