I switched off the TV in frustration.
"How is that even possible? Ankit told me that they saw the reports through their own eyes. I can guarantee that they forged the reports with the help of the doctor, filling his pockets with money."
Pallavi commented furiously, rubbing her forehead.
Sakshi Mehra is an anti-rape activist. She works with an organization that seeks to support rape survivors and help them get justice for their assailants. Recently, she was leading a protest in front of that political party leader's house along with a rape victim's family and fellow members of the organization.
As a junior journalist, I accompanied my senior to cover the live news. I even got the chance to talk off camera, and it was a great experience to talk with such a strong and fearless woman. She had left a strong impression on me.
A thing that really surprised me about her was that she knew something like this would happen when she looked at the number of threats she was receiving on a daily basis, but her passion for helping those victims had never wavered.
Prachi, Pallavi, and I even interviewed her for our final year assignment a few months ago.
Looking at the news, one can clearly observe that this is not the truth. There are many more things that are hidden.
I rubbed my forehead, trying to lessen the ache that was forming in my heart.
Why do good people have to suffer so much?
I heard my phone ringing. It was my senior, whom I'm assisting.
I picked up the call.
"Hello"
"Mahi, you have an opportunity to interview the Police Information Officer (PIO) tomorrow regarding the false rape case. I'll forward you the remaining information about it. Are you in?"
This is a great opportunity for me to stay connected with the case, and i could try my best to help Ms. Sakshi.
"Yes, Sir. And it's not a false rape case."
"We don't care about the truth, just do it properly."
"Okay, Sir"
My foot.
I ended the call and resumed to eat my breakfast that I had left half eaten.
It's been two days since I met that handsome officer, and since then, I've been waiting for him to contact me.
Why?
I don't know.
Maybe it's been so long since I had a crush on someone. The last time I had a crush on someone was three years ago on a guy I saw only once in the metro station.
Shaking my head to remove the thoughts about the officer. He is so much older than me and might be married as well.
I felt my eyes widen with the thought of him being a married man. How can I have a crush on a married man? I'll try not to think about him.
But again, what if he is single?
I felt someone smacking my head from behind, interrupting my thoughts.
I turned to look behind me it was Ankit bhaiya. I glared at him, rubbing my head to soothe the pain before hitting his arm.
This man is always here, making me wonder if his annoying ass was kicked out of his house by the landlord.
I always wanted a big brother, and now I'm regretting my wish of having a big brother because he is a completely annoying creature. He never misses the chance to get on my nerves, and when I complain about it to Pallavi, he behaves like an innocent child who knows nothing.
Not to forget the times he has applied his WWE stunts to me like I'm a two hundred-pound well-built-up muscle man, and the number of times he has stolen my ice cream from the fridge is uncountable.
"Kutta, itne jor se koi maarta h?" I hissed in pain.
"Tune bhi toh maara aur yeh 'kutta' kya h izzat de mujhe. Tera jija hu mein."
"Izzat? Haha--"
"Mahi, don't fight with him again." Pallavi yelled from the kitchen. I looked at them with disbelief, feeling betrayed.
"You stole my friend from me; just wait, I'll take my revenge very soon, and I might start calling you 'Kaleshi Bua'." I pointed my finger at him, throwing draggers through my eyes.
"Please, Mahi. In return, if you stole my friend, I would be very happy. And how can I steal the title of yours? My and Pallavi's children would call you that, Makhi."
"Haww-you, Pallavi, listen to what he's telling me." I looked at Pallavi and groaned physically, looking at her blushing like a newlywed bride while Bhai was sprawled on the couch with a proud look on his face.
"Don't you have any work? Why are you here? And don't call me 'Makhi'." I muttered in anger.
"The case I was working on got transferred to DSP Sir, and I got a few days off. Me and Pallavi are going on a trip tonight."
"Don't forget protection!" Prachi yelled from her room.
"I have to prepare for the interview; I'm going." I ran from there, feeling awkward.
I began drafting the list of inquiries pertaining to the case.
A message popped up on my phone, and as I glanced over the details, I abruptly sat straight looking at the officer's name, who is leading the case.
"DSP Sparsh Tyagi"
