He asked with hopeful eyes. The doctor gave him assurance that she's all good. But just need more rest to recover soon. After listening from doctor he ran to meet her. He slowly opened the door and froze at the place when he saw Hanna sleeping on the bed with so much machine around her, a thick bandage on her neck and saline pin in her palm. He took slow steps and seat beside her while holding her hand softly. Unknowingly some drops of tears left from his eyes. He himself didn't know why he was so worried about her, Why was he not able to see her pain? Never before have he felt so much for someone else. Was it just because Hanna helped him? Or because she showed so much courage? Or was it something else that he himself couldn't figure out? He was also tired during the long day's running, his eyes were also heavy, he looked at Hanna once more and placed his head next to her and slept while holding her hand.
As Hanna slowly opened her eyes, the first sight that greeted her was Jake's exhausted face, his features relaxed in a deep slumber. She couldn't help but smile at the sight, her heart skipping a beat. But she quickly averted her gaze, attempting to shake off the unwanted attachment. Why was she drawn to him, of all people? She, who avoided human connection like the plague, found herself inexplicably linked to this man.
As she tried to lift her hand, she noticed Jake's firm grip, his fingers wrapped around hers like a vice. It was as if he feared someone would snatch her away from him. Hanna's smile returned, this time tinged with a hint of wonder. She felt a flutter in her chest, a sensation she couldn't quite explain. It was as if her heart was awakening from a long slumber, and she wasn't sure she was ready for the consequences.
With a gentle tug, she tried to free her hand, but Jake's grasp only tightened, his subconscious refusing to relinquish it's hold. Hanna's eyes lingered on their entwined hands, a sense of comfort and security washing over her. She knew she should pull away, but a part of her reveled in the warmth of his touch, the sense of belonging that came with it. The battle between her heart and mind had begun, and she wasn't sure which would emerge victorious.
As Hanna stirred, Jake's eyes snapped open, his gaze locking onto hers with a deep concern.
Jake: Are you...are you feeling well now? he asked, his voice laced with a tender urgency. Hanna nodded slowly, her eyes drifting to their still-entwined hands.
Jake followed her gaze and hastily withdrew his hand, his face flushing with a sheepish apology.
Jake: I'm...I'm sorry. I was just asleep.
The great detective, renowned for his composure, seemed to unravel in Hanna's presence, his words tangling in his tongue like a nervous schoolboy.
Hanna's smile was a gentle rebuke, but she tried to brush it off, her eyes sparkling with amusement. Just then, the doctor bustled in, shooing Jake away with a firm but kind tone.
Doctor: Let her rest, detective. You can wait outside.
Jake reluctantly exited, finding Martin waiting with a tiffin in hand.
Martin: Sir, ma'am sent this for you.
Martin said, his eyes twinkling with a knowing glint.
Martin: She called you, but you didn't answer, so she sent this with a strict instruction - you'll send it back only after finishing the entire tiffin.
Jake chuckled at her mom's sweet gesture, inviting Martin to join him, and together they dug into the tiffin's contents, the aroma of homemade food filling the air.
Martin hesitated,
Martin: No, Sir, how can...
but Jake's piercing glare cut him off. Martin wisely chose to join him in silence, eating alongside the detective.
As they savored the flavors, Martin seized the opportunity to inquire,
Martinis: , how's your precious?
Jake's eyes widened, and he choked on his food, his gaze flashing a warning at Martin.
Martin feigned innocence,
Martin: Sir, you were the one calling her yesterday. Why the glare?
Jake's response came slowly, his eyes avoiding Martin's,
Jake: Yeah, she's fine now. The doctor's monitoring her again.
The tension was palpable, Martin sensing the depth of Jake's emotions, but wisely choosing not to probe further. The air was thick with unspoken feelings, the detective's mask cracking ever so slightly.
