Phayu stops just inside the door of the study room where they are having the student council meeting. For a minute he thinks he is seeing things. Right there in the middle of the room, in the last place Phayu expects him to be, is the boy he has been looking for these past few weeks.
Everyone else looks up and greets him happily, some of the students even surround him. He has never minded before but now he just wants to talk to Rain. The boy doesn't even look at him when he goes to stand in front of him. Obviously avoiding him on purpose.
Anger washes over Phayu like a wave. Not only did Rain sneak out in the middle of the night, now he refuses to even look at him.
"Found you," Phayu says, only then does Rain's head jerk up, and he looks at Phayu with wide, scared eyes. Phayu reaches down and puts a hand on Rain's arm, forcing him to his feet. "Excuse me everyone, I have something I need to discuss with your classmate in private."
"P'Phayu, you know my friend?" Sky asks in surprise.
"Oh is Rain your friend?" Phayu asks calmly. He remembers Pai offering to fix Phayu up with Sky's friend and wants to laugh from the irony. "Then let me borrow your friend please."
Sky looks at Rain, who says, "I will go with P'Phayu." He is probably afraid that if he doesn't Phayu will tell everyone exactly how he knows Rain.
Phayu leads him to a second-floor classroom, which is abandoned since school isn't in session. He pushes Rain inside and locks the door behind them.
"Don't you have anything to say to me?" Phayu asks, when Rain only stands there looking at the floor. When Rain still doesn't speak, he says, "Fine I will start. I don't like rude boys who leave without saying anything."
Rain blushes, "I didn't mean to be rude, I only..."
"Only what? Had your fun and decided to pounce and bounce? Is that something you do all the time? Was anything you told me that night the truth?" Phayu doesn't know why he is so angry; this wasn't how he had planned to confront the boy if he found him again. However, to have his world turned upside down only to see the boy sitting in the middle of the room so calmly had infuriated him.
For the first time, Rain shows a spark of spirit. He finally looks Phayu in the face and says, "It wasn't like that."
"Really, then tell me, what was it like? Rain I warn you; I don't like people playing games with me." Phayu says.
"I didn't, I wasn't playing games." Rain says, he sounds desperate for Phayu to believe him, "I just thought that you were nice, but I know I was only a one-night stand. How could it be more than that? So, I wanted to save you the awkwardness of seeing me the next morning. I promise. I didn't know it was a bad thing to do, to be honest I had never done that before. I don't know the rules. I'm sorry."
Phayu had thought nothing could cool his anger but time, this however is like having a bucket of ice-cold water dumped over his head. Phayu is stunned. Rain thought he had only been nice to him? And he really only left like a shy little puppy? Does Rain really think so little of his own charms, where had this boy gotten the idea that he wasn't desirable? Whoever had made Rain feel that way better hope that Phayu never finds them.
Phayu stands there stunned for a minute trying to decide how to proceed. Anything he says to the contrary of Rain's beliefs will only be interpreted by the boy as him just being nice. He needs to take this slow and make Rain see that he really does want to see him for more than one night. Phayu needs time to come up with a plan.
Phayu sighs dramatically, "I believe you. I think we should forget about it for now. Can we pretend that night never happened and start over?" As if Phayu has any chance of forgetting that wonderful night. "From now on we'll just be senior and junior, okay?" Phayu will find a way to be a very good senior to Rain.
