Valkyrie was awakened from sleep by a ringing phone. She propped herself up on her elbows and muttered, "Shit... what time is it?"
She reached over to her nightstand to grab her phone and saw that it was Mercutio calling. Accepting the call, she said, "Mercutio, do you have any idea what time it is right now?"
"Yes. It's 8:00 AM. Rise and shine, gorgeous."
"Ugh... I was up until 3:30 AM tailing my night owl of a mark and I'm exhausted."
Mercutio, in a reprimanding tone said, "Your clock is starting to run out. It's been four weeks, and you only have another four left. Are you really going to ride out the clock?"
"Yes! I had to shorten my recon time by at least three folds. I am going to use every single second that I have. I was given eight weeks and I plan to use every bit of it. Mercutio, this man, he isn't like anyone else I've had to watch. Thus far, he has no patterns of behaviors, no set schedule, and no real soft spot that I can target. In the past four weeks, I've not seen him once with a woman. Normally, I catch my marks fucking at least every couple of weeks at the least, but this man, he lives like a strange monk."
"What have you seen him do or go?"
"He is a night owl. I rarely see him go out during the day unless it is to meet people for business. Otherwise, his day doesn't begin until sundown. I've seen a few people going in and out of his place of residence and the only habit or routine I can nail down is the people he interacts with day in and day out. Otherwise, I can't predict his movements."
"Okay, then how are you going to work this one out?"
"I'm thinking about getting to one of those people that interact with him on a regular basis. I can't find a way to get close to the man otherwise."
"Hmm... more people means more opportunities for things to go haywire."
"I know this. But if I'm going to get this job done in the time that I'm allotted, I'm going to have to make some leaps."
"Alright, then. Let me know if you need anything from me."
Suddenly realizing that Mercutio never said why he had called her so early, she asked, "So, why did you call me in the first place?"
"Oh, right. The buyer wanted updates. I called to get them from you."
"I don't have any updates. I have an idea as to whom I'm going to try and cozy up to though. He has a personal assistant, a bodyguard type, that seems to have full access to the mark. He goes by Halsey. Liam Halsey. I'm going to see if I can ingratiate myself and see if I can get some inside information on the man's schedule."
"How soon will this happen?"
"Tonight. I happen to know that said Mr. Liam Halsey will be attending a club opening at Verge tonight and I plan to make myself the woman that he won't be able to live without."
Mercutio barked out a laugh and said, "Yes! It's been forever since you brought out your siren. Hey, how about I play the chair for you tonight?"
"You don't have to. I can manage this on my own."
"Gorgeous, I'm not offering because I think you'll need support. I'm offering it because I love to watch you work your siren. That woman makes me want to sell my soul to the devil."
Chuckling, Valkyrie replied, "Yea... the appeal seems to be quite universal. I think a part of it is how mean she could be. Bordering on abusive."
"You might be right. I would like for her to abuse me anytime."
"Get a hold of yourself, Mercutio."
"I probably will, after this call."
"Hookay... Why don't I let you go now. I should get my day started."
